Just wondering. On my check this morning I say some tracks that looked like there were two cats walking the same area. Not a small area and the tracks were side by side. There was one area that I only saw one set of tracks but the other area (the area they would have been in earlier in the night) there were two sets of tracks. Did the cat just walk that area twice or was there two cats walking? Yes, I know they are cat tracks. There were no claw marks, the tracks were very distinctive. That and each set was on top of each other (rear foot track on top of the front track). Had a cat track a two days ago that walked the first part. Not wanting to catch a cat now and rather glad they did not get into a trap as they are not in season. Just wondering if they are wandering in pairs now.

Just a newb trapper wondering when they travel in pairs.

Thanks!

They can breed anytime of the year, but normal time is now so the young are born when there is an abundance of prey in the spring time. I've seen 2-3 young running with a sow many times and have seen a couple of big toms hunt together many times on fresh snows. They will deceive you by walking in the same tracks many times, and will even walk in deer tracks quite often!

Lee is right any the lady says ok! but Feb around here so the young can be born when it is warmer and plenty of young prey to keep mom and kittens fed. My guess is that the females come into heat when a certain amount of daylight triggers the heat cycle.

If you remove the tubes when collecting glands in February you will find eggs developing sometimes.

This is about the time males start cruising.Breeding can be Feb or March. That is the typical breeding time, though it is true that occasionally they may breed at odd times of the year.I don't know but bobcats may be like bears and mountain lions and come back into heat if their kittens are killed or die. This happens more than many realize.

I think you have the tracks of a tom and female.I have also seen where a female came through, this time of the year and a male followed, one day behind.I have also seen lions do that where the male was one or two days behind but following in the same direction.

I have a friend who lives more or less off the grid near my cabin and she was describing a sound she heard a week or so back. She thought it was a bear but I'm pretty sure she was hearing a bobcat or lynx mating call.

That's just what she described, Bruce.
