Did it really hit you that you weren't going to be around forever; Did you take living each day more serious as though it could be your last?

I don't spend much time thinking about things that are out of my control but I do look both ways before crossing a street.

I’d say it was the first fatal accident I rolled up on. Five twenty year olds ejected from the vehicle, one was still alive. Worked on him but, I believe he ended up brain dead and they pulled the plug.
I was 18, fresh out of EMT school and able to ride without an FTO. I knew people died obviously, but when you see someone your age die it sinks in a little.
I know it doesn’t seem like much, I’m sure the combat vets on here have seen much worse than I have.

I see a lot of folks that start preaching about God when they either became sick or got older but they never had time for him before that at least the preaching part of it. I believe and keep my religious beliefs to myself in my world at least I could not tell you what religions most of my friends are on my best days and that might be why we have been friends for so long. When it has come up with some we just move on with our lives no discussion just respect for their way of life.
I believe in doing the right thing and never hurting anybody that’s not trying to hurt me or others.

8th grade. My first ambulance ride and first night in the hospital. I heard “you’ll be dead before your fifty”. I think about those words every day. Especially now that I’m closing in on 45!!

Did it really hit you that you weren't going to be around forever; Did you take living each day more serious as though it could be your last? 9yo my best friend was killed in a freak accident I was one of the ones that found him after, a year later my dad died, truth is I never really expected to get to the age I am now or even half this age which is why I spent so much time when I was younger trying to experience as much as I could My dad was 52

In the service. Got comfortable with my mortality. Figure it'll come when God puts the check by my name. I have no fear or worries about it. I would say I appreciate each day and those I encounter each day. The sights and sounds make it all worth while.

I suffered a Stroke - that the specialist say I shouldn't have survived. I lost my Right carotid artery totally. and a 60% brain blockage in a region that made me lose speach and my Left side .
God touched me...when I got home from rehab I asked for Prayer because I had faith & didnt want to live that way for life. I was prayed for by hundreds during that time. 3 months later I started getting my Left side back.
13.5 years later Im at 80% speach and movement ...Strengh and memory are impared
I realized that morning in the MRI machine after the doctor said "lets just try and keep you alive" That I was Mortal.
Before that I felt invincible.
Holy cow! You’re not even that old right now, never mind 13 years ago. Glad you’re recovering well compared to a lot of others!

When I had a heart attack at age 54 and was laying in the hospital room thinking I was wasting time and had a lot I needed to be doing. They took me to the cath lab and I found out I had 95% blockage on my widow maker and they put a stint in. It finally sunk in that I could have been not around for all the stuff I was worried about forever. I am 63 now and look at things differently.
My Dad died when he was 53, he died on good Friday, I had my heart attack on Easter Sunday.

Holy cow! You’re not even that old right now, never mind 13 years ago. Glad you’re recovering well compared to a lot of others! I'm 55 Now I. Went Tubing behind a ski boat ....at a high rate of speed The boat driver took me over another boats wake. I went up real high and when I came down crashed and blacked out for a short time. I tore my inner wall of my carotid artery. .... disection of the artery we now know. The doctors couldnt figure out my intense headaches that next weelk even during a battery of tests. 5 days later I stroked. They figured it out later that the disection caused a clot that broke free from mt neck and slowly traveled up to my brain that week. So yeah! Blessed to be here! Gods Will !!! Live each day as if you'll die tonight.
