I know 99% of you won’t have a clue (like me) but someone on here always has the answer. I saw these two small growths on each pad on the rear paws of a Marten I caught. Does every Marten have these or are they warts or something? I’ve never dug down through the fur on their paws before, but this time I wanted to see their pads. Didn’t see any on the front paws. Just fur growing in a different pattern which seemed to form a “pad”. Maybe White17 or Gulo or Boco will know what they are?

Does the foot on the other side have them?

Then they have got to be grips or glands or something that is supposed be there. Not a wart or something wrong. Can't wait to find out the answer.

I finished tanning this Marten today and dug down to see the pad. It was fairly easy to find the pad while being wet. Freaked me out a bit when I saw these things staring at me lol. I wasn’t sure if I should cut them off or if they’re part of the pad, so I thought I’d ask.
I’d like to know what their purpose is.

Some sort of scent gland would make most sense to me especially since the fur is so much longer and thick I can’t see how these would aid it in any way with maneuverability. That’s just my thinking though.

Maybe an oil gland for the fur.
