My state (Oklahoma) limits me to "double-spring offset jawed, leg-hold steel traps with a jaw spread no greater than eight inches."

The only foot hold trap I see that meets these requirements out of the box are the #5 Bridger Offset Jaws Double Long Spring.

Will this trap work ok for beaver or is there a better choice that keeps me legal that I haven't found? Also, I wouldn't be opposed to modifying a coil spring trap (removing/replacing 2 coils from a 4 coil trap).

Those will work fine
As would Sleepy Creek dls
Or
CDR 7.5’s
Mb 750’s
Bridger 5’s with helpers removed

You could always get used #4 dbl longsprings or coils and weld a spot on opposing jaws to give an offset.

I have a little wire feed welder and thought about that but wanted to go with as big a trap as the law would allow.

I just pulled the trigger for a couple of the Bridger #5's. As traprjohn mentioned I'll have to pull the helper coils. I'm hoping that doesn't allow any pullouts.

I sure like the looks (and the size) of the Sleepy Creek #4 1/2 dls. You can get them with offset jaws too. I may have to add 2 or 6 of those as the budget allows, lol.

I just started trapping this year so ALL of this new to me and appreciate any help. I hadn't even thought about trapping beaver but I was asked to thin the coyote and raccoon out on place and found lots of fresh beaver sign when scouting it last weekend so they got added to the list.

You will need a set of setters for the Sleepy Creek #4 1/2 dls. You can hurt them if you try and stand on the springs and they are pretty much impossible for a mortal to set by hand. I have a dozen offsets and they are very nice, I am getting ready to replace the dogs with a stainless verson that has the night latch notch.
