suicide is sad but suicide rates don't really fall in countries without guns Japan has basically no civilian guns they have had between 20K and 32K suicides a year over the last 10 years of data 2009 to 2019. Japan has 127 million people a bit more than 1/3 the US population.

accidental gun deaths has been about 500 or less for years and when there is one it is generally gross negligence.

with training we could probably get under 1 in a million annually.

how many people do cars kill each year oh yeah it has been holding steady about 40K to around 40.5K with about half as many cars as there are guns.

I am fairly confident that 1 guy with 1 bolt action gun and 100 rounds could have killed the same number of people or more in las vegas from the same hotel room , the difference would be 1000 less misses although there wouldn't have been the muzzle flash to identify the location of the shooter either so it could have gone on even longer with people not even understanding why people next to them were falling.

I suspect the 400 million total United States estimated gun number is really low compared to the actual number. 42% of US households are believed to have guns. I don't know anyone who has guns, who does not have several, with most having 6 or more. There are lots of guys and some women that have large numbers of guns. I am sure I am not the only one here that knows several people with well over 100 guns.

once you get to the cities a lot more handguns a lot fewer rifles and shotguns and often fewer guns per person is what I see.

i also don't know many people with one a few my grandpa had one shotgun his hole life it needed shot he hit it with a 12ga , my uncles had other guns but grandpa only had the one , a friend of mine is a farmer he has 1 22lr that his dad passed down with the farm they also had a 20ga but it had a broken stock and missing extractor was beyond repair with available parts ,everything he shoots is shot with that gun. in both his case and my grandpas case they were both farmers it was a tool of the work and they weren't really in to guns. I also know people with no gun , not a lot , a few one of my wife's friends they have no guns in the house , her dad probably more than compensates for that at his house.

I have no idea how many guns there are in this country. But I am certain that there are a few that none of those clowns are going to get while the owner can still pull a trigger.
