If the beaver I caught has exposed tits does that mean its a nursing female? This is probabaly the dumbest question but I can't upload the photo I took. Thanks.

It was 4 of them, right in between the front feet. I'm assuming a female but I'll know for sure when I skin it tonight. I know a dogs tits drop like that and this is the 1st beaver that I've ever caught that have exposed tits.

It is logical for pre and post birth breeding females to have developed and exposed nipples. I'm wondering if anyone knows if when nursing is done that mammary glands and nipples retreat fully to non-breeding appearance of not being visible but still palpable through the fur.

If doing control work...that's the one you want. The brood female. Where there are overlapping colonies there can be more than one sow beaver in same area. Save her sac oil to use after the catch there slows/stops...you'll be glad you did.
