60ish up here today so figured suckers were out, spent the day blowing beaver dams out to let water run off. First day it hasn't rained in I don't know when.

Not my circus, not my clowns.

Ugh! First cottonmouth encounter this winter. Encounters usually pick up in late February so right on schedule. This was a biggun...about 4.5 feet long...he did not survive our encounter.

The beaver caught nearby watched the show.

Braver man than me.....Not a chance I could handle trapping with snakes.

I thought you southerners brought them snakes to church and passed them around the congregation?

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

That's them believers in the Appalachians. Us deep south folks is a lot smarter than that. We look at it as God gave us better sense than to handle venomous snakes.

4 acre man made pond. Closed system..no water running in or out. 2 big lodges and 1 small lodge....all 3 with fresh mud and sticks...but not a lot. Very little beaver sign around pond edges. Several black gum trees gnawed out in pond. Only 1 castor mound. Caught 2 females at that mound in foothold with no scent used. Stayed a week..no other activity. Four 330s were also set in old bank den and a narrow feed channel....no beavers came near those.

Came back yesterday to check for fresh activity and reset. Water came up about 5 inches due to recent rains and mound is now under water. Zero sign on pond shoreline. Had to use boat. Set all crawlouts at the lodges and half dozen snares. Had 2 this morning...1 in snare.....1 in foothold.

Landowner tells me 3 or 4 have been shot in about 3 years. Beaver I have caught so far have been 3 adult females...2 of them with udders and 1 adult male.

I HATE POND BEAVERS! Too much work....no dams...square shy......no natural mounds....hard to get to....!!!!!
