I remember when the Dow was 4300. Yesterday the Dow rested at 25000 and something. This is media panic. Keep dumping in money. Your wallet will thank you in the long run

Yeah, 2020 may be a rough year but a person has to play for longer-term averages, especially if part of the money that's coming into retirement funds are employer matches. The 4th quarter of 2018 was rough so brought our whole portfolio down to only about 0.95% gain for the year in the pot but 2019 was a 24.2% gain (additional money + gains in funds) so averaging those 2 years, we're up 12.6% more in the pot than the beginning of 2018. I'm sure there are a bunch of guys here who put more money in and/or have better returns than me but I'm pretty satisfied where we are right now, could certainly be a lot worse. The gain on the accessed value of the house is up about 8.5% annually since 2012. I don't think that's sustainable but I don't plan anytime soon.

A friend of mine who lives in a more wooded state south and slightly east of me left a voice message wondering/hoping I had moved some of my assets into safer positions before this week. The difference between him and me is that he has really no additional money coming into his portfolio because both he and his wife, both less than 58, are "retired" so he only has the principal he had when his wife retired last year so any losses to him are real losses with only subsequent up trends to recover from their blow. His system works for them but its not my situation, at least not now...

For that to happen, the left would need a brain...……. I see no evidence of that.

People who support the elite left have no brain! The elites that are pulling their strings are smart as a whip and evil as all H3ll!

They "the elite left" are the type that kill millions as soon as they gain control! That Bernie Sanders will kill anyone who apposes him if he gets power! Left gets trifecta in our govt and you will see death in biblical proportion here!

I buy quality companies that pay dividends (dividend aristocrats) when they go on sale...which is now.

I try not to worry about stock price, rather I'm more concerned with building a good dividend stream for when I retire. I drip all dividends.

Just keep an eye peeled for signs a company may cut its dividend. Payout ratios that are irrationally high can be a good indicator, If business slows, companies may have to cut dividends in order to meet debt obligations.

True statement!!
But the man in charge of the red party sure is quick to tweet when it’s trending up an awful lot. Never saw one tweet this week. Strange, sure wants to take all the credit for trending up, but certainly not his fault for the trend down. Coranavirus obviously had lot to do with market this week, but maybe in part it was going to hit a wall anyways? Who knows

My account is connected to a computer program that is constantly watching the market. I guess when I meat with my broker, I’ll find out how smart it is. My profile is rather conservative. I am 73.

First U.S. death. There goes Monday.
And yes, it is a tragedy, and my heart goes out to those effected, but this thread is focused on the stock market. That's all I'm saying.

I think it is very possible for the poo to hit the big turbocharged fan. The dems need it to for any chance of a win in the main election this November, the media will be orchestrating it just like they orchestrated the push to invade Iraq the second time. During that time Phil Donahue had the highest rated TV show and he said 'lets think about this before we go off and invade Iraq" he was cancelled soon after. The dems and their backers would kill 1/2 the country if it got rid of Trump and maybe they will do that after they get rid of him.....the country is soft and ripe for a fall, actually all the first world countries are.
The 2nd invasion of Iraq was a horrible mistake as we can see now, but the media was all for it and instrumental in getting people in favor of it. They will be beating the kung flu drum big time from here on out...

First U.S. death. There goes Monday.

If some one in charge would actually come out and say what ethnic groups are being the most affected (acutely sick or deaths), then maybe the the stock market fear and panic would recede some. This bug isn't the "flu" and as of now its very "specific" to certain populations---I'll let you fill in the blanks. Until the bug actually self mutes out of those specific pops, its not like the 2018/2019 "Spanish flu". Now, the stock market will probaby still be dragged down because we've made and/or allowed China to become the grand factory of the world and the U.S. is now paying for that either specific policy or lack of policy. Maybe its another wake up call that a lot of specific manufacturing needs, or at least a certain percentage of it, done at "home". My agency as of now can't have any servers that have Chinese chips in them but why the **** do we allow U.S. big pharm to make all of their basic antibiotics off-shore?? Just like rare earth minerals & metals, USGS has been stating since Bush II that the U.S. is too dependent (actually reached 100% under Prez Barry) on the Chinese for these elements. Finally, under the Donald we're moving forward to re-open and expand North American-based rare earths, but I don't think anything is actually rolling out of those mines yet. Then you wonder why some people think its done on purpose...

The funny thing about history is that it repeats itself so you should check what has happened in the past to a mostly free society when socialists take over. The group behind aoc also got a few others elected to the house and they idolize pol pot. You heard of that guy? Why do you think they want everyone's guns? Any intelligent person knows that a lack of guns in a society does not stop murders of citizens by other citizens it does enslave the people thou and leaves them defenseless against an oppressive government. How is that for bananas?
Why do you think they want to disarm law abiding US citizens?

You didn't loose a thing if you didn't sell. Buy more when you are comfortable with the price, don't try to time the bottom.

^ You get it.

How many people die from the flu in the US each year?

While the impact of flu varies, it places a substantial burden on the health of people in the United States each year. CDC estimates that influenza has resulted in between 9 million – 45 million illnesses, between 140,000 – 810,000 hospitalizations and between 12,000 – 61,000 deaths annually since 2010.

At approximately 10 a.m monday, the ISM report will be released. That should cause some sort of market reaction one way or the other
