Protected here in Nebraska. First, last, and only one I ever saw 'on the hoof' was over 60 years ago. Front foot/feet in a trap, doing a handstand. Charlie

Have caught 2 in south Ga. Both when I was in my 20s. I'm 55 now. Did see one at night about 2 years ago along highway.

Several ongoing studies on them now in IA and TX that I know of I believe it’s a habitat issue some think farm chemicals but if you find a place full of thick cover, buildings or vehicles civets will be around. Have seen/caught them in remote creeks areas they can climb like a squirrel no problem.

Yep, they can climb. I've caught them 3-4 ft off the ground on doug firs I had beaver carcasses in.
My fear of moving stairs is escalating!
