Its my first time cleaning the some claws and I have a have a question. My understanding of the process is: 1)you remove the claws, clean off hair, meat, etc., 2) Let it dry out 3) Peel or cut off that thin layer around the nail so that the claws falls off the bone 4) Clean up the exposed bone so it looks nice and glue the claw back on. Is this correct? Some of the badger claws have been cracking near the base when I try to remove that thin layer holding the nail on.

In my opinion, you should skip steps 3 and 4. Once the bone end of the claw is well cleaned and dried you are good to go.

Steps 3 and 4 add extra work and cause problems. A waste of your time .

All the claws I have done I clean the meat and hair off then let them dry and use a buffing wheel to clean and buff them and done. I leave the bone in, some the bone finally shrinks the others it stays and they look great.

If you try and take the bone out usually the claw will split, I just take all the hair off let them dry then buff them up

They look fine and are just as sale able, easier to use this way for necklaces as well !
