whats the most $$ you have ever made from a red squirrel?

Indeed I do.Easy to tan and only a few cents a pelt.Do all my weasels too.
$20 ea or $18 wholesale
Cannot meet the demand on either.
Commercial tanners charge so much I can easily undercut my competitors.
In fact my competitors are the ones who buy me out wholesale at every sales event.

Yes, I see. Cost prohibitive to send the smaller pelts to tannery and still try to sell for a profit. Thanks alot Boco, you have just nudged me into another job. When am I gonna get last falls leaves raked up!

Those look great Boco, have you ever made a hat out of the red squirrels?

No never made a hat out of squirrel.It would be fairly flat looking,tight to the head looking.Have to really think hard about a design to get the right look with flat short fur like that.The red squirrel really does have a strong leather for such a small animal.
You would really need a very fine mink machine to sew it all together,which I dont have.It may look good as a combination with another species with medium full fur incorporated into a bomber style hat on the flaps.

I didn't think about it looking flat. I sure think it would look great if it could be figured out. Thanks for the reply.

I have a white-phase red squirrel I plan to tan myself. Austin has a "colony" according to google.

Very nice boco. I tanned a few squirrels last week but I’m having trouble getting the tails broke without actually breaking them lol. How do you break the tail?
