Foxx your friend needs to try looking at things objectively. Finland’s economy is collapsing under the Socialist system right now, Venezuela never happened? The others mentioned are on the same glide slope.

I don't think that the Nordic Countries are socialist Countries, they are missing a good chance to be maybe lol.
I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

As long as your talking health care saw a program on TV where people in the U S were going to India for knee and hip replacement because of cheaper cost . It stated that the Doctor's were U S trained and the cost including rehab and plane tickets was less than half of cost of having it done here. many are going to Mexico from what I understand as well. Personally , I'd want someone relatively close, for follow ups, and in case a "re-do" is needed.

I don’t believe the health care system in Canada is as great as some here indicate ? All I know is, when I used to hunt near Kenora and Dryden, Ontario. the people I rented the cabin from told me , that if I need emergency health care while there, to make the drive to International Falls , MN, do not go to the local hospital. Can’t say if true or not, but He told me his father broke his leg, sat in the emergency room all day, and went home without receiving care. And had to return the next day to get care.

Pete , You have to take your turn, depending on how bad your joint is. There will usually be a wait time. But it is covered under our health care system. Therapy after surgery, is covered. Home visits by nurse , until you are able to travel, to therapy. I have absolutely no complaints about how I was treated during and after surgery's. old 243 I ask because I have heard of people who can afford it in England fly to India get a new joint it costs them out of pocket but they don't have to get on the wait list that can be a year or two. they could buy a new car or a new knee or hip they get the knee or hip

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Also many Canadians live very close to the Canada/US border. The closest hospital for a lot of them is in the US and I don’t know about other provinces, but Manitoba has an agreement (don’t know the legal name) with Minnesota that the Manitobans can use the American hospital and receive free healthcare just like in Canada.
So that’s also why there will be Canadians going to USA hospitals.

def appreciate the conversation we are having here. the fella i'm debating with is pro-Bernie all the way.....my comment to him during our debate
"jonathan,, thats exactly what bernie is banking on.....you guys have such a displeasure towards trump,,,,that you will vote for anyone running against him........make no mistake about it.......bernie is a communist ,,,plain and simple. don't like trump......ok.....just wait out the 4 years...at least your republic will still be intact......and you can vote in a decent minded democrat..but if bernie wins.........you can surrender your freedoms goodbye........history is calling to you to review it.......in no time ever has socilisim ever been of benefit to its citizens and eventually falls to full blown communism.......venzula is crumbling.......because they had promises exactly like bernie........i just hope biden gets the nomination for the democrats.......if he doesn't......then may god help us all.
he replied..
.Yall just love to cry out "Venezuela" while ignoring the positives of Norway, Finland, Iceland, Canada, New Zealand, and many others lmao.@#$%yeah, I'm going to vote for whoever it comes down to. Do I HOPE it's Bernie? Yes. Will I vote for Biden if it's him? Yes. Will Bernie get my Primary vote first though? Yep.
I'm a 27 year old non-straight, partially disabled Agnostic living in one of the reddest states in the country, working as a freelance transcriptionist without health insurance but with multiple severe medical conditions and over 150K in medical bills following a near fatal car crash 2 years ago. My parents are small business owners with medical conditions of their own. I most likely will not survive 4 more years of a Trump presidency at the rate things are going.
I could not fairly debate him as far as the healthcare system is in Canada because I didn't have first hand facts.......................I like to have the right information .......and thus the reason for my question to you guys.
.....
It would pay you, and him to Google " socialist countries" . The countries that come up are not the ones he's pointing to. But, some that Bernie refers to do like Cuba.

I live very near Detroit, MI which happens to be blessed with some of the best hospitals (U of M, UD Mercy, Karmanos, etc) and lots and lots of RNs live in Canada and work in US hospitals here because the pay and conditions are much better (at least in this corner of the world)
I have been a beneficiary of our healthcare dollars, and because she has a rare disease, my wife has very much benefited. IF (and that's a big if) neither one of us had coverage through our jobs in the USA, medical bills would surely have bankrupted us but I will say this...
Our quality is not always on par with the US. While there are plenty of studies showing better patient outcomes and lower patient costs with socialized medicine I don't think those studies are very nuanced and are not likely apples to apples. There are wait times up to 18 months for specialists like neurologists here, one year waits for knee and hip replacements were commonplace a few years ago... wait times in the US for similar cases (but paying customers) where measured in weeks. There is a mechanism for Canadians to receive emergency care in the US at no cost to them if the care is not readily available in Canada. It is also worth mentioning that my wife was very nearly stuck with a $50K per year bill for the medicine she needs because it may not have been covered by OHIP and not something covered to any great extent by my prescription coverage... we were very fortunate that a rule interpretation went in our favor... not everything is "free"
On a side note, the average auto worker here pays a 35% (ish) effective tax rate and when you factor in unemployment and gov't pension the source payroll deductions are close to 50% for most of the "middle class" in my area. Groceries are at least 40% more expensive here than in Michigan as are vehicles and many consumer durable goods are at minimum 25% more expensive
But I can get all the .22 LR ammunition I need for relatively cheap compared to what is posted on here sometimes LOL
The fact is that both countries have their benefits and disadvantages associated with living there.
Just happy to be here.

The bottom line is look at the world life expectancy rank and you can see where the best healthcare is.Canada is not the best but far better than most and 5 years longer life expectancy than US.
Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.
