One observation, At Herkimer and Ballston Spa sales the auctioneer is a trapper himself and knows fur, At Herkimer you'd best get there early. Even fur checked in at 6AM might put you way down the list to be auctioned..For my money, these two sales are the best in New York.

Yes Fisher Man,

I skin out all fisher with complete legs and paws
down to the last knuckle along with saving the lower lip.

I fill the paws with borax and heavily dust
the legs, ears, and lips.

I sell my skulls green/fresh frozen
here on the trap shed.

Have not had any fisher skulls to sell
the last few years due to the requirement
we turn them in to DEC in order
to get the fisher pelts sealed.

I hope DEC repeals that requirement soon
as I am loosing $20.00 per fisher skull.

Thank you. I've had buyers in the past complain about claws on fisher. Years ago I left the feet on everything from fox to mink.

Those are the same buyers who are currently
only paying $25.00 for an XXL Male fisher.

Buyers purchasing fisher pelts for Hat making,
Custom Fur garment trade, or Internet
wall hanger market will gladly pay another
$15.00 to $20.00 more for complete specimens.

Same deal with Coyotes, fox, and skunks.

Why leave more money on the table
for just a little extra-work ?

Herkimer Auction happening is in doubt at this point.

I got a better deal from Groeny with no 2 hour drive
and no commission, or waiting for my check.

The Fur market hasn't recovered enough to risk getting
BOHICA'd at FHA with the borders being closed,
and foreign buyers not being allowed to attend.

I got very near the same prices from Groeny for rats that
I've gotten for the past 4 to 5 years.

You don't understand New York State Fur Auctions.

You are an idiot, BOCO

I agreed with another trapper that Groeny
needed a nose bumper on his grading board.

No different than the chit NAFA or FHA pulls
with their grading scams or the stunts
many (most) In-country fur buyers pull to discount fur.

Encouraged by the 190 coons averaging over $8. They may have been later caught but I would guess NY coon to be Eastern coon or Canadian and those are much better prices than have been reported for coon from WI, IA, ILL and MN to date. NY rats are good rats but with all in over $4 is a good average. Don't know the commissions but if I could do well supporting a trapper's organization I would sell there too.

Nope that was just me commenting on how good the Herkimer sale this past spring was. I doubt GFW will be paying those prices from earlier this year. That was just Kudo's to the Herkimer bunch.
