I have a gun stamped Erfurt 1915, I’m assuming it’s a Mauser and Efrurt is the town where it was made? It has all matching numbers except for the bayonet, does the bayonet look period correct? Any value?

Yes, 98 mauser. The scope bases aren't standard issue though. Snice it's otherwise stock military issue I suspect it's a military sniper but that would need confirmation by someone more knowledgeable. If confirmed it's value goes up considerably.

Bayonet is correct and would not be numbered to the rifle.

Thanks Warrior,
I was told at one time it was a sniper rifle but I didn't consider the source as reliable, is 1915 the date of manufacture or does the serial number dictate that? Interesting on the bayonet- I thought the numbers should match.

Sensors me, lol.

Does it male chicken when opening the bolt?

Reason I say 93 is because 98 have a step towards the barrel. Once you determine its not a 98, the difference between the 93&95 is the bottom of the bolt.

Yea, I get that.

Just a couple things look off for a 98 that I'm use too.

When does it coc the firing pin, opening or closing?

I believe it is a 98 and the claw mount scope bases are super cool and era correct. PLEASE tell me you have the scope that goes with it. I am drooling if you do.

I have nothing clever to put here.

I bet that's a small ring 98. That's the first one I've ever seen, so if it is, please excuse my ignorance!

You guys are way beyond my expertise, I do not have the scope. I've had it for awhile and I remember taking it to a gun show when I was in high school (a long time ago) to look for a scope, at that time the gun got a lot of attention when I was walking around, it's been tucked away since then.

I believe you're right. Small ring, highly collectable as many small rings were converted to sporters making all original specimens sought after.

That would be Kar 98 for karibiner model of 1898. The karibine was an intermediate length barrel not a true carbine. Prior to that militaries issued long barrel "muskets" to infantry and short barreled carbines to calvary and artillery. The intermediate length was one size for all. Model of 98 refers to the year the action was accepted by the army, 1915 is date of manufacture. The Germans dated their arms well into the latter years of wwii.

I had a one track mind when I saw it wasn't a large ring, so I automatically thought 93. My bad.

It is indeed a small ring Kar 98 in 8 m/m mauser. 1915 is the date of manufacture and Erfurt is the arsenal. The bayonet should also have a date on the spine of the blade.

I don't see a date, the bayonet seems to be more worn from a condition perspective than the rifle, there are three lines of text with the first word missing the first letters:

_ _ FFENFBRIK
Mauser A.G.
Berndorf a. N.

WA are the missing letters. Waffen (arms) fabrik (factory).
