I see them show up on the Trap Shed ever so often, but them things get bought quicker than about anything that shows up there. Isn't there a smaller version, like the 500? How come those hardly ever show up? And, are they THAT much better a trap that the additional cost is acceptable? I cringe even when I lose a trap that I bought used. I might convulse if I had a $40 trap stolen or mashed by a tractor. I'm still curious as to why some acquire every one of them they can get their hands on.

I have been trapping for over 50 years and in my opinion they are the finest built trap on the market. I picked up a new one at a recent NTA show in Tennessee. I paid $42.00 for it and gave it to a friend that has been wanting to try them. They can withstand punishment from the toughest of coyotes. I run MJ 600s and a lot of them. I am always wanting more as do so many others. You are correct, to loose any trap hurts but loosing a Sterling is extra painful. I have other manufacturers traps and they are good traps that I can make work well in unsecured areas but my go to coyote trap will always be a Sterling.

There is a 500 size.

The MB650 is a clone of the 600.

I have a few of the 500 and 600 in my trap collection. Never would I use them.

Sterling Fur in Ohio often has them new. I got six new ones from them last month. If you go ahead and purchase from them and they dont have as many as you want in stock, they will fill your order when they come in stock...

and the 650 doesnt hold a candle to the MJ600 IMO....

650 is NOT a sterling clone. completely different pan/trigger. mb650 pan needs replaced after a decade or so of constant use. the 600 will just eventually not have much pan tension.

750 pan is closer to the sterling 600 than the mb650.

Sterling MJ 600s pan tension can easily be increased.

Jaws and springs are interchangeable with the MJ 600 and the MB 650 the triggers are different the MJ trigger rocks. Setting at a regular type of set not much difference between the 500 and 600 for blind sets I go with the 600s.

About 5 years ago I saw Montgomery Fur had 2 of the 500s in stock so I went up there and bought both of them. The MB650 and MB550 are amazing traps and definitely trump all other traps, except for the MJs. I love MBs, but these MJs are a lot better. Can’t appreciate one till you hold one. I did have one stolen a few years back by still have the other. Caught a coyote and badger in it this season. I’m thinking of making an order for a half dozen more this summer.

If traps work like the Antis say......I would have no fingers.
