red mt, trappers have this misconception that end users HAVE to have wild fur when in fact they simply turn to another alternative if those pelts aren't available. Holding raccoon in hopes of higher prices could very easily completely kill the market, and usage. Other than big, heavy trim coon, the vast majority are used for liners. Anything from cheap wild mink, Angoran rabbit, New Zealand possum, low grade female ranched mink, lamb skin, etc. can be used for liners. Trimmers can be replaced as well.

As to groney buying fur just ask those Indiana boys how much fur he bought last weekend. He bought so much fur that he filled the truck and had to store the rest. Trappers were lined up all day long. I was told no coon sold for more then $8.00 and $45.00 was the top price on coyotes.
The results on the Indiana FT sale Is still being worked out. But It didn't sound to good from what I was told.

All castor is not created equal. A Lb of #1 stuff Is going to bring more money then a Lb of #2 castor. Beav, most of the major country collectors pay the same for #1 and #2 grades. It's the shells that are often discounted. Some country buyers buy straight run all at one price. One collection of nice straight run brought over $80/lb at our last association sale this weekend in Prineville, Oregon. So in my opinion one can do better, far better, for nicely put up castor then what Groeny seems to be offering.

I hope they dont start using castor for trim or liners. Why is castor price up? Supply is down. I believe there is a pattern to this?

The price of castor is up because DEMAND out passes supply. That’s not the case with most wild fur

If I had coon in my fur shed I would be a bit worried with todays market. Same with coon sitting In the auction house. Like Walleye101 said why pay more when you can buy all the coon you want for less then a $5.00 bill.

Obviously end users should switch to those cheap alternatives if they require trappers to sell at a loss. Why would I care?
