I dont think most people have much grasp of the real danger in these type of scenarios, its other people were the biggest danger comes from in my opinion. People turn into animals quicker than most people realize especially when they are scared for their lives. It would be riots of unseen proportions everywhere there is a decent size population. And the more they think you have the more danger your in.
Keep in mind a city of a 100,000 eats about 150 tons of a food a day. Hungry people are dangerous people.

Make pemmican-stored right,it will keep for years. A while back they found some pemmican in a buffalo hide buried in a cache under an old trading post. They figured it was from the 1850's.After trimming the outside the inside was still edible. A slice of pemmican has about the same calories as the same size slice of butter(but more nutritious). In other words very little will keep you fuelled enough to work hard all day long.

There is a great book in respect what you describe.- Wealth War and Wisdom by Biggs. The cities will go first. The rural area's are the best option, next to leaving to another part of the world.(The best option- including having money or gold in that area) The stores are low on certain items and the stock market is already giving signs of what's ahead. Homeless people in cities will cause viruses to explode. Gun free zones are doomed. I dont think most people have much grasp of the real danger in these type of scenarios, its other people were the biggest danger comes from in my opinion. People turn into animals quicker than most people realize especially when they are scared for their lives. It would be riots of unseen proportions everywhere there is a decent size population. My GUESS is most people in cities will stay there till they get real desperate waiting for somebody to come save them. By that time there won't be much gas to drive with as people who have them will be running generators for the first week or two. They will decide to leave and look for food after they are too weak to do much. At least most of them. The bad thing is the thugs that are strong and have been taking from others will be healthy and dangerous. I dont think there will be as many as some imagine though. They will do first what they know best. Prey on each other.

That is of course unless the wives read the comments, and then it will be the husbands buried in the garden.

The strong thugs who are raping and taking from others will be hunted down. I know this for sure because, I will be doing the hunting. My GUESS is most people in cities will stay there till they get real desperate waiting for somebody to come save them. I noticed something interesting today. College town of 100,000 +/- in N/E Kansas. Rained today, started around midnight so it was raining since first light. I had to run around some this afternoon and spent a little time on the phone parked in front of the post office. Lots of people going in/out there and the other places I went to and maybe 5% had a good rain jacket on, it was raining hard/sideways.....either they have none or are not smart enough to wear one.
If anything gets real fast there is going to be chaos. This country is soft and filled with stupid....no fix for stupid.

We would fair better than most. Have a good spring at the house. Hundreds of quarts of canned goods, 20 empty cases of jars/lids, lots of meat in the freezer that could be canned, pond full of fish, fifty gallons of honey on hand, big garden with heirloom seeds, enough firewood to last 6-8 years, couple hundred pounds of beeswax, and most important....guns and ammo to defend my stuff.

Whiskey may be a problem though. I have a grain bin full of corn, it would suffice in an emergency.
