I have a Newhouse #4 in outstanding condition that has 4 very professional looking stamps of "E.T. CRIPPS" on the trap. 2 under the pan, and 2 on the cross by the dog. Also, there is a number "56" stamped under the spring.

Anybody know anything about E.T. CRIPPS? Thank you!

The "56" under the top of the spring is a factory mark. I am not sure what it means but I believe it is a lot or batch # from when the springs were made. I have seen the #'s on small traps up to #4 1/2 size.

I noticed your from Maine, here's a good starting point for further research on Mr. E.T. Cripps. From the November 1914 issue of 'MAINE WOODS'. Appears he was from Bath. Likely he could be your guy.
