My wifes pet possum was good at catching them. Thing loved night crawlers. I think she still misses it. i miss seeing the two of them out in the yard catching them. Wife would keep worms in the fridge for it. I had to limit how many she could give it from the bait store during the summer. She was feeding a dozen store bought worms at a time till I caught on. Had to watch her with pet store mice too. She would buy baby feeder mice for it. That thing got where it could eat a lot. When we had a coyote pup she would buy it full grown mice. Pretty expensive pet food.

My dad used to cut the female end off of an old extension cord. He would then split the wires on the cut end, remove the rubber coating and wrap each exposed wire around the end of a 2' piece of rebar. Stick the two rebar stakes in the ground and plug in the extension cord. The worms come to you
When life gets me down..... you know hunting/trapping season is closed.

Me and a buddy used to pick them and sell them when we were kids.If I remember right we got 10 bucks for a thousand. That was a lot of money back in the 60's.It also gave us an excuse to wander around all night long.

When i was growing up we would get up early after it rained all night and would pick them up out of the curbs and along the sides of the street. Bait store really like it when we brought some in to sell. Asked how come there weren't any bruised or ripped up ones. When we told him he said, he'd give us the best price for them.

My neighbor used to do that. Be thousands of them crawling up out of his lawn.

Did it kill them?

Watched the show "Dirty Jobs" once with Mike Rowe. They were doing "worm grunting". They drove a sharpened fairly heavy piece of wood into the ground. Then, used a flat piece of steel and rubbed it across the top of the stick. The piece of metal resembled a large file. But, it wasn't a file, just a flat piece of metal. The worms stimulated by the vibrations, came out of the ground by the dozens. I've often thought to give that a try.
The difference between animals and humans is that animals would never let the dumbest ones lead the pack.

I used to catch my own until I started having back problems. I just thought of a way to try it, I’ll put knee pads on and crawl around on my hands and knees. Of course I’ll have to have someone to get me back up.
I don’t trap because I want to I trap because I have to

Used to pick on a golf course.Couldn't believe some of the things I saw. Caught guys breaking into one fo the buildings, where equipment was stored. Picking on the edge of one green,3 women stripped to their birthday suits and danced on the green.Needless to say-I kept my light off and kept my mouth shut. 2 am while picking a fairway,I saw headlights coming over the hill on the fairway.Drunk came speeding down the fairway right at me.I luckily jumped out of the way. It got to the point ,where the rangers working there, would stop and give me a ride to where they had seen a large number of crawlers. Boy,I miss those days. Tom
