In Colorado it started with hippies about 68 when a comet was passing over. A bunch of them said it heralded the end of the world. They went to what was then a ghost town named Ward. Just west and north of Boulder. Well the world didnt end but they stayed there and about froze to death. Had a bad winter and the sheriffs dept went up there and got the idiots who had done 0 preparation.

Many many people from CA were selling homes in the cities and replacing them with better housing and properties with money left over from the sales of their CA. real estate. Today values are similar to CA prices. Virtually all the Californians were liberals. So if you get a population increase of 25% liberal and add it to the 33% that were all ready there, it doesn't take long before your outnumbered. You lose trapping, hound hunting, even the right to own property. That right being replaced with a limited use version known as zoning. Ranches disappear and the place you loved becomes a place you don't recognize.
