The actions being taken because of the corona virus, are nothing new for older people. In the 50s and early 60s,it was polio, diptheria andTB. Lots of events were canceled.Tests were taken in school as were distribution of vaccines. Remember the sugar cube vaccine for polio? All these actions led to near eradication of these diseases in this country. Lets see what transpires with the corona virus. Younger people, welcome to some of the things us old farts have already lived through. Tom

Yup, remember the sugar cube with the red stain on it from the vaccine. Dad and older sister also had a circular scar on their upper arm from the smallpox immunization. younger brother and I don't have them. Must have figured 'Who cares?' Charlie

Swine flu- 10,000 deaths in the US. No lock downs or cancellations.
COVID-19- 41 deaths in the US. Everything is locked down or cancelled.
The only difference is that COVID-19 is less severe than the Swine Flu, and the President has an R beside his name instead of a D.

The difference seems to be that swine flu ran its course and corona virus is just getting going. D or R probably meant very little to those that are dead or have contracted the virus. Tom

I have a smallpox vaccine scar and remember tb tests at school and sugarcube vacines. What I don't remember is runs on supermarkets and politicians talking about national emergencys over flu season. IF we are being told the truth about who dies and who lives, this flu doesn't seem any worse than any other flu. It is always the elderly, the very young, and those with immune deficiency's that die in a flu outbreak.

Going to the Japanese JIT supply chain is a large part of why we have frequent shortages these days.
People living paycheck to paycheck is another. Overbloated gov has squeezed the middle class mercilessly and media has relentlessly promoted "must have the latest greatest", so most have no reserves anymore.
Your other points are well stated Danny.

A bit OT, but anyone else recall air raid drills where we all got under our desks? I remember that vividly from kindergarten and first grade in later 1950s. That was in La Crosse Wisconsin. Muskrat your just a bit older than me. But I remember all the above, duck and cover, got the round scar on my shoulder.. Standing in line scared with mom saying it's just a sugar cube in little white cup, no big deal....I had measles, and chicken pox never had the mumps but I remember my brothers and cousins having them.. And of course we only had black white TV where watching the old Twilight Zone Creeped us all out.. I think maybe people weren't quit as big a drama queens as now??? Heck if you watch the news, seems every other weather fronts going to kill us all?? I don't Mac

Mumps and measles weren't to bad but chicken pox stinks. Its like being covered in chigger bites with your mom thumping you on the head with a wooden spoon if you try to scratch. Then a few years back that chicken pox gave me a dose of shingles. I just thought chicken pox was miserable. Those shingles are not fun.

This is what government control looks like. Everything will be a crisis and only gov. can fix it. That’s what I thought was interesting about the press conference yesterday. Pretty much all private sector guys helping the government out. Big change from what we saw during the former administration!

It is one of the things that made me use my brain at 6 years old. I came to realize that I would rather die than be trapped in a hundred year old school basement with a pain in the adz teacher and a tin of stale biscuits.I have had the measles, mumps and chicken pox, just like every kid back in the 60's. I do not remember the measles but my Mom said I had them really bad and it almost killed me. Zim
