Anyone involved in this market? Bullion market maybe? Heard from a buddy a little while ago that some of this market has been picking up speed the past week, and has accelerated on-line heavily. He's calling everyone he knows offering a premium on all old silver and gold coins. Anyone heard anything about this? Supposed to be a shortage of some kind. The mint is out of silver eagles and some other stuff is going on too apparently.

With both the stock and bond markets in the toilet, investors are fleeing to precious metals.

The most precious metals one can invest in is lead and steel, aka. Ammo.

Gold dropped $188 last week, I sure don't know why, kind of counter-intuitive. But, maybe people are selling off gold in order to buy cheap stocks.

"Supposed to be a shortage of some kind", the silver hawkers are always spouting this nonsense; ignore it, it's not true.

Precious metals got smacked down so physical buying pressure is up. Silver was at 18. a short time ago now is 14.50 give or take.

So just like toilet paper when demand for physical increases there is a hiccup in the supply chain.

A person can buy all the paper silver he wants.

Waggler, when the housing crash started the metals market got smacked down pretty good and then it moon shot.

Good time to buy silver if a prson was so inclined. Haven't seen spot less than $15 for while...

So if someone was inclined to buy some silver, where is a good place to look? I googled it and the first couple results are selling silver bars for around $16-18 per ounce. Doesn't seem like a good investment if it's only worth $14.81 per ounce.

APMEX is good place to buy. That said, precious metals tend to be a pretty crappy investment, unless you cherry pick the dates. The people selling them rely heavily on fear porn. Just know this going in.

Physical metal shouldn't be looked at as an investment. If you want to "invest" in metals one would be better to buy into an ETF or buy miners stock.

I keep a small amount of silver. Silver and gold will never be worthless. The same can't be said for any paper currency. There may someday come a time when you can buy a sack of potatoes for a couple silver coins before you could with a hundred paper dollars. Ask the confederates.

Looks like I'm late to the party anyway, I checked a few websites and their smaller silver bars (1-5 ounce) are mostly out of stock or priced at $18-19 per ounce, and they all have messages about delayed shipping due to high demand. I wasnt looking to buy a lot, maybe just a few bars to have on hand.
