Hello folks I'm new to the site and was wondering if any of you could tell me the best catch pole to use for fox and coyotes. What length do you recommend? I have been using the metal type that has the little piece of metal that turns sideways to lock in place. However I have to constantly keep my eyes and hand on the tab thing to keep it from releasing pressure and letting my critter slide out. Thanks for your time and really appreciate your information. I'm a self taught trapper and love to take my 3 yr old along with me to make sets and check my lines and just want to keep him safe at the same time. He loves it as well and I'm trying to keep this passion alive!

Get a "Death Ray" from Lee Steinmeyer on this site. It is a catch pole and a dispatch pole in one. Very well made, by a very good guy. Just be sure to order before trapping season.

www.lptrapsupply.com is the home of the DR. I'm not sure when they usually start taking orders....I'm needing a fleshing knife.

I just use a homemade pvc catch pole.

I've heard great things about the death ray and plan on getting one but for now I use a 5ft catch pole made from pvc pipe and has the lock too. It's served me well on bobcat, fox and coyotes for the past 5 years

Thanks for the advice. I will definitely check him out. I sell most of my coyotes to the live market and have to walk a good ways to my best locations due to hard access. So walking out carrying a yote by hand and having your pole slide release pop open isn't a good feeling! I actually did start using a baby stroller that had 3 wheels to haul them out with. I will never look at lady running pushing one of them the same way again. It's the ticket!

Just seen this post, and appreciate the kind words, folks. To be honest, For JUST catch pole use, I usually guide people towards a catch all pole. The reason is, the DR is designed for dispatch first and to be able to use for a catch pole, for release, etc. A high quality tool will last you a long time, and both the Catch All and my DR fit that decription, but your use of the product is what is used to decide which one is best for your job.

Bucknuts, consider using a fur bag for transporting live yotes. Use a pole to insert them in a fur bag, tie shut with little room for movement, if your worried about them biting through the bag, tie it to a short pole for over the shoulder carrying! Good luck!

I have a death ray and it is great but i only use it for dispatching cats and fox. For just animal handling purposes building your own from 1" emt conduit 1/4" cable and a clothes line tensioner is the way to go.

Lee, if I see you carrying a fur bag that is moving I will keep my 6 foot distance
like they recommend in this flu mess.

Couldn't prove it by lookin at ya. whistle

How ya doin, buddy? Tried talkin a guy here in town to get one of your fleshing knives, but he just finished up some 'last year's' beaver with his post knife, and didn't trap this season.

I showed him the one I got and told him he could try it out but he never called me. crazy

Charlie, how you been? All I'm getting done is making stuff again, and finishing the last of my coon up.

For those that have been to my site, I just checked, and it still says we're closed, not so. Orders been coming in. Told my son a week ago to change it, but guess he is busy with family life too! I'll text him again! Make it a good day, folks!
