It was a week ago I started my quest to find some hamburger. I crossed the border into Hudson wi,(closest grocery stores to me). I hit 7 stores with no luck in finding our favorite food.
Yesterday County Market(Hudsons largest grocery store) announced they woul open at 6 am this morning,to allow older customers a chance to shop without competition fro younger shoppers and in a safer environment.
I was the 4th person through the door.Getting up at 4:45 turned out to be a waste of time--no hamburger to be had.The only beef they were putting out was the expensive steaks
So to try and salvage something for my trip,I picked up some bar soap,Tylenol and a spray bottle of cleaner with bleach.
Another blunder on my part. The bleach cleaner was a leaker. The Tylenol box was destroyed and the bar soap covered with the cleaner.
I am going to have some coffee and a cigarette and go back to bed.
Wake me up when this is all over.
Stay safe while I dream of cheeseburgers and hamburger gravy on mashed potatoes.
Tom

You have a grinder. Call around to the dairies. Those cows are grain fed and still fairly young. They get hoof problems and most get slaughtered at 5-6 years of age from standing on concrete all the time. A big big bunch of store hamburger is these dairy cows. Buy one and grind it up. Will be lots cheaper than store ground meat and you and your sweetie will be set for awhile.

Not sure if you have Kwik Trips by you close?? I scored 4lbs in 1lb tubes at KwiK Trip here yesterday and could have taken several more..They have been cleaned out of eggs at most places. But I think lot of people forget or don't know they have the small meat case.
They have stopped selling self serve coffee and rolls stuff like that. Pre packaged you can still buy..

This is Gods way of doing you a favor, Go to the locker plant to buy your meat, you will never buy it in a "store" again.

What Danny said is spot on. Wisconsin is supposed to be the dairy state.

if they are still healthy enough to walk onto the truck then they go for good money. the deals on meat on the hoof is when people get an extra pig and don't have a butcher scheduled before the buy the pig. that is how tight they are running on meat lockers in WI. or when it isn't still on all 4 and a lot of that is spoken for months and years in advance . I get runts and downers from a friends farm unfortunately the last 2 I didn't want to eat , I started skinning the pig but when I hit the infection and it shot puss all over me I was done.

it would be a lot cheaper to find someone who wants to re-home their horse and grind that up

for WI residents you can call the road kill hotline to pick up deer

there is billions of dollars in beef standing around in WI but if your not paying better than market or it can't go to market. market is 1.13 a pound for feeders. you might get a dry cow for a dollar a pound hanging weight and you will have a lot of meat. but it is a big cash layout , work and you need the freezer space.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

If need be, the squirrels, rabbits, and stray cats in my yard may have a bad day.

It's hard to beat that ground venison I shot, cleaned, and put in the freezer this season. :-)

Living in North Central WI we sell our home raised angus/limousine cross hamburger for $3.25 a lb. I have two children living in the cities area. There we sell it for $4.00 per lb. with delivery. It is out there if you look around and we guarantee our beef with a buy back. Have never bought back.

A bit ago ,I got a call from Andy Shoemaker(our MTA district 6 director). He had read about my failed hamburger quest.
Andy and his wife Karen, just dropped off some hamburger and steaks on my doorstep.
My thanks to these wonderful people. It is appreciated more than I can say.
Your actions are unbelievable--Again THANK YOU_THANK YOU_THANK YOU.
