A blessing to work alongside 14 trappers in south central Kansas this past week as we tuned up the coyote catching tactics. It was a record week as far as the coyote catch (3 times any previous year) plus the trappers caught 3 bobcats (released unharmed).

Simply an outstanding bunch of guys this year from 8 different states!

I always learn a few new coyote tricks from those who attend, and this year was no exception.

Our rancher that I lease the ground from was super happy with us - we caught additional coyotes after his area had already been worked hard by other trappers all season long.

Congratulations ! Looks like a good time.

Did any of those bobcats come from the "bend in the river" area ? I remember that area looking pretty good to pick up a cat.

Now to be fair, to compare previous years classes coyote catch numbers to this years numbers. I believe you guys got to keep traps in the ground longer, and probably set a lot more traps. So not quite an apples to apples comparison.

I'm only pointing this out, because I wish I could have trapped for a week when I was there.

HOYT,

One of the cats came from that area as a matter of fact. As far as comparison, the trappers did set traps!!! But we checked for 6 days vs. 12 check days total in the past. Not apples to apples of course, but just a general observation.

Interestingly, many of the 27 coyotes caught were first night catches = my teaching goal wink

If we could have made it happen...
we would have all stayed...
hid out from the C-virus on this ranch in the heartland (middle) of the country...
hammer the dogs...
and trap, trap, trap.
