I'm guessing someone is a little jealous. I do agree that college should be free for all but you don't need a score min. Let them go and can only stay if they keep their grades up. I also think they need to either forgive school debt, or have the government pay for the debt. It's not fair to those who can't afford a better education.

Please explain this FREE thing to me a bit. I am a little slow minded at times.

I still dont agree that dumb kids should be able to buy their way into a school at the expense of smart kids who dont have rich parents.They should have an equal opportunity based on brains,not money or lack thereof.

Going to college is a choice not a right. It's an investment in future earnings and nobody should pay for it other than the individual who directly benefits.

I don't think it should be free, it needs brought in line so kids that work can pay it off quick and start buying cars and houses and slim jims. Plus, they need to get wood shop and mechanics back in the middle schools and high schools.

Don't your tax dollars up there pay for dumb kids to go to academy?

That's what the dozens of Canada truck drivers I know told me.Tax dollars for your socialized medicine and academy for the kids.

It's not investing in our growth as a country, it is teaching people that they can make irresponsible choices and pay no penalty for it. If those students had invested the student loan money they got in a degree that would have gotten them a job, they would not be out of work for any length of time. Suspending interest payments for a few months would make sense, forcing every other tax payer to cover the cost of their 4 wasted years makes no sense.

I cannot envision a society of all highly educated college graduates making great salaries. Who builds the houses they want, or makes the cars they drive, or picks up their trash, maintains the roads they drive on, grows the food they eat, etc. Why should those people in the building trades, farming, maintenance, factory work, etc have to pay for others to go to college to make more money than they do?? Because then those college graduates can pay more taxes to the benefit of all? That's as enlightened as a black hole.

BTW, I am a college graduate, now retired, that NEVER drew a single unemployment check, and paid for a college education for both of my own children. I am not interested in paying for the college education of someone else's offspring. I am very willing to pay my auto mechanic and other crafts for good work that I need done.

Take out a loan, pay it back.

The student loan problem would be fixed if we got the gov't out of it altogether and let the free market take over. Private institutions would only loan money if there was a very high probability it could be paid back with the interest owed. That would mean money would only be loaned for curriculums that would lead to sustained, well paying employment. In other words for getting a degree that will get a well paying job. It would also mean monitoring of grades to ensure the student was on a trajectory to get the degree.

What we have now is a student load bubble very much like the housing bubble the federal government created by forcing loan institutions to approve mortgages for people who could not afford them.
