Went to local meat market to buy some goods for the grill. When I just reached for the store handle there, on the side of the building wall, was a big yellow swallowtail butterfly. I stopped and just looked at...along with 4 or 5 others coming in and out of the store. This was at fairway meats, Lincoln Nebraska, earlier this week.
You see what made that site unique is we are still in March and generally here in Southeastern Nebraska it's still cold and windy. That's not a typical site this time of year around here. There are not many flowers out if any. Also, we had a front coming...and todays windchill outside is in single digits thanks to 40 mph north winds.
Oh well, for a moment this week it was a cool site to behold, and a nice sense of hope for nicer days ahead.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

Funny but my wife and I saw our first one yesterday too. It was a big sulphur but nice to see anyway. An early spring wouldn't hurt things.

My brother worked in the fruit and vege (produce) dept of a grocery store for many years. They would get a shipment of vegetables from down south, California or even Mexico this time of year and on occasion a butterfly would show up if they left the shipment on the dock for awhile while they arranged the warehouse. Hitchhikers sneaking aboard as the truck was loaded and because the trailer was refrigerated the critter would settle in for the ride. An hour or two on the dock (a warm day) would give them the heat they needed to stretch their wings and he would see one out of its element for that time of year........... the mike

As kid I found a morning cloak on the side Of the house by where the dryer vents, there was still snow on the ground so I took it inside and kept it in my bedroom for several weeks feeling it from a spoon got real friendly and would come as soon as it seen me with that spoon

Was hard turning it out as soon as it warmed up enough for it to survive outside
