When this is over, there will be NO ONE who thinks it was no big deal. Every person in here will have a family member die from it unless: 1; covid mutates to be less virulent or not transmissible between humans; or 2: a vaccine is made and implemented within the next 2 months. If u think I'm wrong, feel free to start a post in 9 months to let me know I was wrong.

The question should be asked if you are positive, are you also contagious? Just because you have the virus doesn't always me you can pass it on.

With less than one tenth of one percent showing signs of the virus in the WORST hit parts of the world, and only a very small percentage of those folks dying, I still think it likely we are over-reacting.

We will never be able to compare how nasty this flu really is because we've treated it so much differently than any other that's previously hit the scene. Infection rates and death toll numbers mean squat in this time of shut downs and isolation vs. how the world dealt with earlier types of CV. One thing is for sure - if anyone expects our society to remain the way it was before this event, you're in for a big surprise.

It is hard to believe it hasn't been running around the states since December, with direct flights from Wuhan. So my hypothesis is we all have it or had it, but being novel and noone has antibodies it ping pongs reinfecting, mutating, reinfecting again till you can't take it (chronic). By isolating it burns out, but complete isolation in America is virtually impossible, so we quarantine hotspots and tell everyone else to practice social distancing. Means we will deal with this for awhile, if we keep the medical system working we will be fine. To answer LL I don't know how or why you would get tested without symptoms (unless your famous), but yes if positive I would quarantine myself.

I can tell you what I would do. I have a cabin on the river. I would isolate there, have my provisions delivered to the deck. My wife is severely compromised on account of polio, when she was ten. She is 5 years older than me , and I'm no spring chicken. Between the two of us we have been out of the house four times in the last two weeks. I know there a lot of things that will kill you out there, like chocking. But who wants to make this THE ONE. After all would you try to swallow a 8oz. ribeye without chewing. There are ways to lessen the chances of contracting this virus, which in turn will compromise the spread. Please do your part.

Scout from what they are saying is even next year with out a vaccine the spread won't be as bad. More people will be immune as their bodies build up anti bodies. Basically how a flu shot works. You are exposed to small amounts and your body builds up a defense. That is why it is hurting people with compromised systems. But the media spins it "if it doesn't kill you , you will kill someone you love with it"

My big take is how we as the US seem to have lost our faith in GOD !!! If it is your time to go you are a goner. Corona or heck a tree fall on your car as you drive down the road.. People cowering and running for cover?
LL you keep asking who would self quarantine I got a better question.
HOW many on here know someone personally that has DIED from corona? Not heard about uncle freddies ex granddaughters half cousin almost died !!! SOMEONE THAT HAS DIED from it. If it was the rampant killer the news is feeding us were are all the dead? Yes there are dead and wil be more. BUT not nearly as many as hundreds of other illnesses .......

LLTrapper - I'm almost 63 for the record. I stayed home all week, with what I suspect was influenza, because it's the right thing to do plus I felt terrible. Didn't bother to go in and get tested because I'm not deathly ill and other people need the tests. Fever finally broke on Thursday and I'm feeling better now. I have a son, who's a doctor, who was sent home last week with a low-grade fever and can't come back to work until being tested negative. He was tested yesterday and the results could take 3-5 days. He said his symptoms are very minor and he doesn't seem too concerned. He said it's unhealthy people who are at the most risk. I do think we all have to take this seriously. Stay healthy everyone!

57 years trapping. It's who I am. Every day is still as exciting as it was when I was a kid but a little more work.

Italy also has a much older average age than the us meaning more older people that could be susceptible to it
If you look at the studies 68000 people died of the flu in Italy between 2013-2017 that averages out to 17000 per year
That makes the corona virus look tame

the Italy model suggest it is unlikely

they tested every person in a town 3K
1/2 test positive

65% of those positive have no symptoms (are also younger and more fit typically)

however after those positive but symptom free carriers spent 8 days in isolation they would come out negative on the test.

Jyrd63, you give the example of the tree falling on your car, that could happen I agree. But do you park under a tree during a hurricane? you do chew your food don't you?

You would be immune after getting it unless the virus mutated again. However, you could still carry it.
