Great story and buck. Might not be able to eat antlers but would sure love to have those to gaze upon and fondle occasionally.
I'm just happy to be here! Today I'm as young as I'll ever be and and older than I've ever been before!

Interesting article. Interesting in that the deer wasn't shot but the sheds were found. And the deer came from and area with no hunting for 50 years. Also mentioned was the deer herd at the time was "in balance" in that there was a large population of bucks to does. All of the biggest bucks come from areas where the deer population has a good ratio of bucks to does. Many areas nowadays have too many does per buck. State game departments need to do a better job of keeping the herd in balance both with buck/doe ratios and with older year classes in the population.

I read that in your email newsletter pretty cool story. I enjoy your emails! Glad to hear it. Stories like this one are very interesting to hunters and they get a lot of clicks.

Just look at Wisconsin, we give out a ton of doe tags, but the DNR can't do a darn thing to make people use them, short of earn-a-buck regulations which went away years ago.

There was a big record buck killed in Ohio. I forget it was called the amish buck or something. Anyway it was a big record breaker / setter.
Anyway my buddy was telling me about a guy that he knows that has a buck that beat that one but it wasn't counted b/c when he was loading it / hauling it he broke the one side off.
So the mount in his living room would break all the records but the one side is glued back on and is disqualified.
True or not remember that when you are hauling them out fellas. I am aware of the Amish buck it's a giant but not world class like this one. If it was true that a guy has a world class buck with one side broken, it would be a well-known buck and the collectors would be all over it, broken or not, so I think he's exaggerating. Think you could get any pics of it?
