We garden and can our food. Never know from one season to the next when something will or won’t produce, so always put up extra if it’s there to do. Other stuff we buy in bulk to save money, sometimes splitting up cases of stuff with other couples or families. Grew up around grand parents who survived the Great Depression and prospered afterwards. They believed that another depression could and would likely happen again. Times have changed and they have passed, but I always felt there was a value in what they taught me. I’ve been between jobs, barely able to keep gas in my truck to look for work and wondering if I was gonna make the payment on the truck on time or gonna pay a late fee, again. I had food though. Didn’t have to go out and get an EBT and spend time trying to get something for free instead of finding work. Having a few provisions for yourself is just taking a little responsibility for yourself, IMO.

My grandpa told me, it’s easy to control a hungry man. A man that can feed himself won’t be told what to do.

Guessing it would take months to run out of food and most other supplies if it came down to it, with summer here fishing would make up meals if needed.

I put 1/2 of a beef in the freezer about 30 days before the panic. I'm good as far as meat is concerned. Got plenty of can goods so I'm good.

We have over a year’s supply of food at the house.....we’re not preppers or hoarders. We are, however, self sufficient. Big garden...freeze and can every season multiple vegetables, grow 10 bushels of potatoes, make corn meal, can and freeze deer meat, squirrels and turkey. Even some beaver in the freezer this year. We freeze 150 lb of crappie and walleye, 60 gallon of honey on hand, 2 freezers full of stuff, dozens of quarts of homemade soups and sauces. Got 32 fruit trees, stawberries, blueberry, and raspberry bushes. Have a pond with bluegills, crappie and bass....seldom fish it.
We have an extremely low grocery budget and only go to a store a few times a month. Kids come over and get stuff all the time.
I’ll die of something someday, but it won’t be starvation.
