What are some things you've done in or around your house to either beef up security or just be more prepared for a bad situation? Let's share some tips and male sure the Tman crowd is well-informed on how to protect their own. I'll start with a few just to get the ball rolling...

Curtains over my garage window (actually I used a flattened cardboard box) so looky-loos can't see what's inside.

Moved the change jar out of plain site in my kitchen, again to avoid drawing attention to it.

Swapped the long-range scope on my AR for a reflex sight.

Locked up some spare cash that was laying around the house in various places in the gun safe.

Guns and magazines in the gun safe are loaded and ready to go to battle.

Making sure indoor blinds are drawn at night.

I spray frosted my shop windows.

Other than that nothing much new.

We close the blinds around sunset and don't leave things out in the yard. I skin in the side yard so people can see....what mighty happen to them.....

Keep a firearm within arms reach at all times.

Guns in a safe do you no good when the front window shatters.

I put a c-clamp on my garage side rail. The roller hit the clamp and that is it. Leave the laser light on my revolver all the time in the holster next to the bed. Loaded with +p's. Have a light on outside all the time.

get a little dog. You dont want one that bites, just barks, when ever someone is at the door. a barking dog will wake you up. a barking dog will also give you a few seconds while your assailant shuts it up. a dog that bites will get you sued or worse. a little 10 pounder that will bark is what you want

Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

Doing nothing other than normal here. 4 Plott hounds will let me know if anything moves. Plenty of loaded firearms sitting around.

Wireless cameras. Wife put some up, even if they won't work, the presence of one helps. I have my front yard set up to where you have to be on camera to come to the front of the property.

Dog, especially if they start barking when someone comes up to the driveway or house.

We live in the country, closest neighbor is about 1/4mi away. When someone "different" is seen on our county road, we notify the others to BOLO. This has stopped an issue before, one that I was personally involved with.

I put 1/2" chain and pad locks on my barn doors, if they want in, they are going to have to work at it.

My dogs (inside) do a real good job of sounding the alarm anytime anyone is in the driveway or males noise outside the house. My lab has a nice deep, loud bark that will no doubt wake us up and hopefully give pause to any would-be intruders or thieves.

My brother used to leave a radio playing and a dim light on in his outbuildings. I have 2 dogs in the house, front and rear outdoor motion-activated lights on, and guns stashed all over the place instead of in one location...some of which are at hand and loaded.

No loaded guns here due to small kids, but guns and mags are out in the open and within arms reach of each other ready to go. On a high shelf where kids can't access unless they worked really hard at it, and all but 1 of them isn't strong enough to load and charge anyway. They handle them all the time so it's not something I actually worry about, but better safe than sorry, and it's a convenient place to put them anyway.

I'm more concerned (not worried, just concerned) about other types of security....clean butt security, food security, etc etc. Nothing that can't easily be handled though, and we're prepared for at least 2 months.

More concerned about clean security also. Since grandkids do not come over I have glock 19 out of small pistol safe. For years I have conceal carried but do not go out much. Protection is not a issue here yet but heaven forbid if we get to that stage pistol will be backup to a shotgun which I will get out of the safe with 2 shell belts from my old snow goose days. Shotgun is hard to beat in my opinion. P365 when I do get out

Not just for now but all the time

doors locked , yes even when your home it buys time and keeps walk through thief's out

cars locked , even if they are in the garage

limit what they can see

if it locks lock it garages , sheds , trailers

we have touch pad outer door locks on the house , with kids it is easier than the number of keys and everyone remembering them.
this helped get the kids in the habit of lock the door every time your in or out.

keep the gun on you it is the safest place for it and easiest to reach works if you have kids or grand kids at the house ect..

now the germ threat

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

How do you like it? I just ordered one myself. I also test shot the new Springfield Hellcat, but liked the way the P365 felt better.

Security lights- yard is well lit
Lock up everything
Gunna get something over the windows in outbuildings
Dog that barks and growls
Have my carry gun on my person. The family knows the drill of where to go in emergencies and in the case of being broken into, the pistol should get everyone there and got the AR ready with 60rounds of Critical Defense and Barnes TSX’s.

Motion activated lights and security cameras. And a few loaded firearms to greet them with. Make sure one of the security cameras is pointing towards your elec. and comm. lines.

Old coon hound can still smell a squirrel fart at 50 yards...so we got that covered. She’s got a pretty loud bay too. Most that haven’t been over before are a bit afraid of her...
hidden potentially non lethal weapons around the place...you know like clubs and such. Wife and I carry most of the time so those are close at hand.
Haven’t really changed much since we got up here and realized the tweeker state of things in the area...other than a camera system. In other words we’ve been prepared for the thief/looter types for about 4 years now.
One new thing is I have a couple running junkers that will block the driveway if shtf...
Most of us on our road have started our own little neighborhood watch...there’s a couple vets that are home all the time and very nosey...I appreciate that.
The rest I won’t mention...sharp little secrets..

Oh I forgot to mention I’ve hoarded a boat load of plywood....if it really gets bad I’m screwing the winders shut. I know it won’t stop bullets but you won’t be able to see what’s going on inside either....
Talked to one of the vets the other day...he toured Vietnam...and in a low almost depressed voice, he said “I ain’t got much and other than the wife not much to live for these days...if one of these idiots wants to try to take her me or any of my junk all they will find is god”. I wasn’t real sure how to react to his statement so I just nodded. I get it though, I can’t imagine what he’s been through. Happy to be near him though...
