Are you guys talking about the book Deerslayer, the last book in Cooper's Leatherstocking Tales?

I've never seen the movie.

I've tried to read the book 3 or 4 times and its so dry I just can never get through it. I do love the movie though and the soundtrack, listen to the soundtrack often while I read.

I even have a nice copy of the book with the illustrations by N.C. Wyeth

The syntax of books written 150+ years ago is very different than in modern writing and it can sometimes be hard to follow. Or maybe it's just Cooper's writing style. Mark Twain sure liked to point out what he considered the literary mistakes of Cooper and seemed to enjoy poking fun at him.

I collect books, especially old ones and have become used to the old style of writing so it doesn't bother me. I enjoyed all five novels in the Leatherstocking series despite Mark Twain's criticisms. grin

Twain didn't like Jayne Austen either

I did get through the Young Readers Edition of The Last of the Mohicans - does that count?

Absolutely one of my favorite movies ever. Watched it more times than I can count.

That’s great! LOL

I love Gary Larson’s The Far Side. The guy is a comedic genius.

There was no tv back then, books were to be read slowly and pondered.
And Mark Twain was just jealous
