I heard today that castor may be hitting over $100lb. Since it is an important ingredient in many lures I wonder if this will cause lure prices to rise again? I don't really need anymore lure but I'd rather buy it before it costs any more! Thanks for any insight!

I heard the exact opposite that castor priced would tank because most is used in cosmetics/perfume and that industry is slowing because of COVID-19. So no market for it.

I think that if castor went to $100 a pound, I'd do like Bogmaster, and quit making lures that contain castor, such as Backbreaker. I'm not in favor of raising the prices any more in the near future. I would lose money making Backbreaker if I had to pay $100. a pound.

It has "hurt" to dip into the castor bucket these last few years so a bit of relief would help the lure makers. At $100 a lb. I'd be crying as I dipped. Big tears too.

I realize there are factors involved, but on the average how many beavers does it take to get a pound of castor?

I got myself a seniors' GPS.
Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination,
it tells me why I wanted to go there.

The selling price of a lure is not based solely upon the value of one ingredient alone. Castor is only one staple gland ingredient that is driven by the perfume trade industry that affects us.

All animal glands are increasing in value and with much less availability every year. Skunk essence has steadily gone up in value, good urine and all imported musk's, natural oils and essential oils have all gone up every year. It wont end.

Good lure is still a good value even at current pricing. Continual combined ingredient and component price increases will eventually affect consumer pricing as it always does.

I'm curious how much of the castor that's bought goes into lures and how much is used for other things? I imagine the luremakers that buy are using it for themselves not passing it off to the perfume industry, but then where does the perfume industry get their supply? Auction houses?

How many ounces by volume are in a pound of castor?

How much Castor goes into a season of lures and bait making for a Mark June or John Chagnon type operation? I am playing in the water this spring because nothing better to do. I might be interested in trading some Castor for lures if I can score enough Castor in the next 2 weeks.
