Haven't read it but was just reading an article where it was referenced again.

Anyone here ever read it? Thoughts?

Not too bad a book. Some good folks profiled in there.

A lot more of the "heros" are the hippie-type, end-of-the-road type "trappers" from the Upper Yukon area. A couple of them are now living in town and have become anti-trapping and anti-hunting!

I had forgotten about that.

Was that"eccentric" guy Wild Miles in that book ? Had a houseboat on the Kantishna ??? What about the guy that took over Alaska Magazine and turned it into a greeny rag ?? Seems like I remember him in there also

I don't recall the Alaska Magazine guy. I know Wild Miles was NOT covered in the book.

Same guy who wrote Coming into the Country wrote Into the Wild. From what I remember, the book wasn't that accurate. It profiled various people. It might be good reading but is no longer representative of goings on in Alaska.
Who lives here in town now, Pete?

Very good read, regardless of the viewpoints of the 'characters' featured. Once you finish this one, you'll want to read John Hildebrand's "Reading the River" and Dan O'Neill's "A Land Gone Lonesome". Both cover the same area during more recent times.
