Just got back from local Walmart. Had a good supply of yeast in packets but no flour. Figures... All that was left was some organic wheat flour that no one was buying. I got a 5# bag since I was low.
With all the panic buying here's a place most probably don't know carries flour. Dollar Tree. A 2# bag is a buck. Something to keep in mind if you have one around you. I didn't think about it myself until I was in the one here the other day and saw them on the shelf. A guy at work was going to make dumplings this weekend and couldn't find any flour at wal mart or the local grocery stores. I told him about that the next day and he looked at me and said he never would have thought of that. Neither would I if I didn't see it. I really do like that store. They've got a lot more stuff than what you'd realize including a heck of a candy/snack aisle.
This is my first attempt ever at bread. I will try new recipes and continue as long as i have supplies. I thought it was good. Has a bread texture but tastes like a biscuit lol. Kids loved it, its almost gone before it even cooled off.
Another Beer Bread one. 2 1/2 C flour 1/2 C whole wheat flour 3 3/4 tsp baking powder 1 tsp salt 3 T sugar 1 12oz warm beer 1/2 cup melted butter 375 oven Grease loaf pan,mix beer with dry ingredients and spread in pan. cover with 1/3 of butter, bake 35 min, butter again, bake 10 min, butter again and bake 10 more min. let cool 30 min in pan.
You can use 2 whipped egg whites instead of butter, I like to add chopped walnuts and Ocean Spray Craisins [dried cranberries].
The sugar makes the crust hard. Easy to make and good.

Nessy there's plenty of gluten free mix at the stores. I used some last week to make pepperoni rolls turned pretty good. I got to make another batch soon, I freeze em and take em fishing.

I haven't made bread in a heck of a long time; but, may have to get back in the game if we have shortages.
I won't waste anyones time with a recipe, since I never (ok, rarely) follow one.
The basic recipe ADC posted is an excellent basic recipe. It's been done since pretty much the beginning of time; so you might consider it to be time tested.
The following procedural tips are the purpose of this reply to assure you decent result:
Yeast: it is a living thing. Too cold, it is inactive. Too hot, it dies. Add it to warm water, about the same temperature as what you would do for a baby's bottle. I buy baker's yeast by the pound, and keep it in the 'fridge. My current batch probably expired years ago, but still works.
Flour quantity: the recipe amount is a guideline. If the dough is still too sticky to work, add a bit more, a pinch or two at a time. Stop when it quits sticking to your fingers
Rise temp.: Let the dough raise anywhere out of a draft. Warm is good, Hot, might cause it to work too fast, resulting in big blow holes in your loafs.
Rise time: Don't watch the clock; watch the dough volume. Let it raise until doubled in size. Less produces bricks, More produces honeycombs.
