Definately the sale in Fallon, Nevada. The last weekend of February every year. Sealed bid sale. Lots of buyers. Plus a great time to BS with other trappers.

Thanks guys. I was wondering if there is someplace to sell the coyote. Im not very good at tanning fur. A friend of mine told me to " find someone to buy the whole coyote in your area"

And i was looking into the NFTA and i dont believe they have a forum to ask a local trapper.

Thanks again everyone.

Seeing as how you are just starting out trapping, thought I would clarify something for you. You mention not being very good at tanning fur. Most furs buyers don’t want to buy fur that is tanned. Tanned being processed so the leather is soft and pliable. Buyers prefer to buy fur bearers “raw”. Raw can be one of 3 things -

- on the carcass
- skinned but not processed. Often called “selling green”.
- stretched and dried. This involves fleshing the pelt and putting it on a frame to dry.

The more work you do to a pelt, the more money you will get. Stretched and dried pelts generally bring the most money.

Skinning and selling green is easy. Doesn’t take long once you get the hang of it.

Fleshing and stretching takes a bit more practice. But coyotes are a lot easier than beaver or raccoon or otter. There are lots of good videos and U tubes out there that will walk you through the entire process. Start to finish.

Good Luck.

I got to disagree with wissmiss, on the idea that coyotes are NOT easier then raccoons. I can process 3-4 raccoon in the time it takes to process 1 coyote

Poorcoon - you are welcome to disagree with me. Maybe you have more experience with Raccoon than coyotes.

For me, I would rather put up a smelly old coyote than a greasy old raccoon.

Miss. You're not alone in thinking. A friend of mine up the road says the same thing. But you're right. I will do 50 coyote to every 500 raccoon. Even if I could skin a coyote as fast as I could skin a raccoon, I still can't make myself not wash a coyote skin. Or not flip them on its stretcher.
