If a person were to get the C-19 virus and had not gotten to the point of requiring hospitalization, what plans do you have to treat yourself at home? I was thinking Tylenol for the fever maybe Benadryl to reduce fluid production in the lungs, and Robitussin DM, for the congestion. Something I have always done for bad congestion that was tight in the lungs was to breath hot steam right off of the tea kettle. I've heard that this virus does not do well in high temps so I am wondering if a person were to breath this steam as hot as he could stand it for long periods if it would not help kill the virus and slow it's spread in the lungs? Any other ideas or plans might be helpful. If your hospitals are full treating yourself at home might be the only option. Hopefully it won't come to that.

I have nothing clever to put here.

I did see where they say not to use Ibuprofen or Aleve, instead acetaminophen products.

So, do my ideas have any merit....the steam in particular? I have never heard any mention of that anywhere.

Unless you get a high fever that can cause convulsions and death. 104 or above, your better off to leave your temp high. A high temp is a defense mechanism. it inhibits many kinds of bacteria and virus.

Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

Here's a lengthy buy good overview of how this thing works, MN Man. (from a real doctor). Some language at times but I think he explains it pretty well.

The fever isn't the issue.

Steam from a vaporizer is good for a chest cold. They do use ventilators for these COVID 19 virus cases. Not sure if the ventilators provide steam, medication, or what they do.

If you do some research you will find that air heats and cools in the esophagus so that when it hits the lungs it is roughly the same temp. If you think about how sensitive the lungs are you would kill yourself before you could get temperatures hot enough to kill any virus. There is a lot of studies out right now debunking sitting in a Sauna as a curative for Covid-19. I think all of your other ideas are pretty spot on but I really doubt from the research that I have done that Steam would do anything except loosen congestion.

OK, I've seen this one before, Thanks, Calvin. I do know about the devastation that is caused to the lungs and know that high temps kill the virus but have never seen much on how to take care of yourself if you get it before you need a ventilator. OK, I will skip the Tylenol unless the fever gets to 104 and I am dying from that. But what about the hot steam to increase lung temps and loosen congestion? It's something I would try. Has anyone ever heard this mentioned anywhere? This was may main question, I guess.

OK, that makes sense but I know from experience that the steam did help loosen the congestion when I had a chest cold about sixteen years ago or so.

I heard a doctor say,if you got enough heat in the lungs to kill Covid19,it would destroy the lungs.A 200 degree sauna for instance, would not deliver200 degree heat in the lungs, the body won't let it.I don't remember the Doc's name but he was the one interviewed by Joe Rogan.

If it happens to me,I plan to use my bipap sleep therapy machine as a ventilator, which it is.

Maybe and old fashion Indian sweat log is in order for this bug??..

I'am kind of surprised no one here on T-man has figure out how to clean it up yet.

Using the go too Dawn dish soap, Baking Soda, and peroxide.
Would have also thought someone would know how long you have to soak it in vinegar to get it off ya?

And there has been no discussion at all about how to best protect your self..
Should we be dying and waxing our selves? Coating in Andy Stoes? or Formula 1? or simply just applying a good coat of Rust-o-luem..

Guys here been talking to much pollyticks and not sticking to what we know..Solving problems..

It seems filling your lungs with moisture would be something to stay away from when your sick but that’s just me.

Mac, I'm not talking politics here and we all have been hearing constantly about how to protect ourselves from this virus but in case it does get to us it would be helpful to have some home remedy to alleviate some symptoms. Good Lord I think we all know enough to avoid people and wash our hands and keep our hands away from our faces by now. I sure don't see how my question was in any way political or how asking for some way to ease symptoms at home was stupid.

You wonder if it’s just a matter of time that we all will get it eventually over time if it’s everything they say it is?
