I have not had much opportunity to hunt recently but managed to get out today. Found a real nice small Celt along with a petrified something. Horn related? I have a few pics. [Linked Image]

One of the biggest war points I have ever found. Around here they are almost always under an inch.

Tons of those fossils in the gravel pits around coral rapids. There are shells, and what look like snails in the rock. The ones that look like snails are nautiloids.

Nice celt!

In Ohio, does the term war point reference what we would call a triangle or Madison up here? Or is it typology for your area? I hunt and catalog points here in MN.

Thanks!

Your war point or triangular Knife river Flint was more than likely a knife by the way it broke to the side, when they are small like that they were bound and used with sideways motion in cutting or fleshing.
Look for very small flakes on the sides and this indicates multiple use of this tool. Just little silver flakes on the sides.

The broken adena shows some rework along the break as well.

Thanks for posting. Lots of utilized flakes with fine edgework around here. Good material wasn't wasted.

As time went on they learned that you just needed a sharp knife tip to open up a arrow wound. Game animals probably changed at that time as well. Large spears were a gone period

Google Knife River Flint and see the photo of the pits from where the digging occurred, it looks like a WW1 front line shell bombing field.
