Ack's thread got me to thinking. Here are a few I have found while out groundhog hunting. But it's been at least 15 years since I've looked for any arrowheads. I only know a couple of them but then again, I could be wrong. The 3rd one down on the left is maybe a bird point and the pinkish one on the bottom was an arrowhead turned into a scraper, I think. Any value to any of what i posted? Just curious. Sorry, the pic came out sideways.

I don’t know about value but it’s definitely cool to find something like that and just look at the land around you and imagine what took place!

hate to disappoint, but you may get 75- 100bucks....you do have 2 very nice points in there though......the lecroy point ,,the lowest point in the frame,,,,is from the arcahiac time period...around 7-8000 years old,,,,,,,might be a 20 dollar point.......the other looks ike a snyders.......Hopewell....woodland period...around 2000 years old....maybe 30-35...... the big blade possibly 35-50 bucks . artifacts are like coins........condition and type usually dictate.............and of course material plays a part.....the majority of your frame has a lot of brokes and field grade stuff.

No disappointment for me. I don't plan on getting rid of them. Just wanting some info on them and I thank you for that.

Along Susquehanna. These were all found pre 1970 when we plowed the fields along the river by my dad and me.

One of the fields I found a few of these in is no longer huntable. It was was put into CRP a number of years ago.

Knew a guy that used to have a huge collection, several thousand and a lot were found by him. And he would go to auctions every now and then and buy some really nice ones. I know one that he showed me set him back $600 but that was close to 20 years ago. And he always said that modern farming ruined arrow head hunting. He was an old timer back then and used to find a lot while actually plowing his ground. And when he passed away, one of his relatives went in and stole his entire collection, or at least most of it.

The best made I’ve ever found. All intact and thin. Stick it in arrow and shoot it through a deer. Indians were just people. It took practice to get good at making points. So you will find some better than others. Yes there is an outside chance you find one shot at a deer. Way more likely to find at village/camping spots. Knapping was a past time with the men. They set around relaxing chewing the fat making points. Discarding broken pieces, re working pieces, simply losing them, all the while getting better at their craft. This begins in boyhood and a few get really really good at it. The points then have to survive the plow and disc. I found this point in an inch of water while fishing around a man made pond.

Hogwild: most look like field grade, If offered $50-100 that would be about right if selling. Most of what people call "arrowhead" are atlatl dart points, and what people refer to as "bird points" where the actual arrowheads. Natives didn't need big gaping holes to kill game like we do today. They were excellent trackers. Larger points were often used as knives and blades. Nothing was wasted, if something broke, it was re-worked into something useable. Knapping was something EVERYONE needed to know how to do to keep an edge. But just like today, some were better than others. And some it was their "job" to knap.

I find I'm better at making them than finding them. But I have been lucky and found a few where I hunt at. I've even killed a deer with one.

foxkid that is a nice collection. And thank you, Cahokias are some of my favorite points to knap.

Nice points to all! Fun to see them from other regions.

Pintail, you do excellent work. I can knap a little, nothing too fancy and mostly pressure flaking.
