Hello. Today was opening day of youth turkey. Yesterday we got a decent amount of freezing rain and this AM was 29. I haven't saw much at all in back of the house so we slept in and went out at 7:30 (300 yds in back of the house). On the walk out we heard one gobble 500 yds out. We were going to sit in the elevated box deer stand as there is a heater, dry, and I didn't expect to see anything. Sliding windows were froze so held the Mr Buddy up to thaw out one. Gave three series of yelps 10 min. apart. I knew we wouldn't last long so I wanted to try to get one going if it was interested. After 30 min. he wanted to go home so we packed up, got ready, unloaded the gun, getting ready to get down when a hen came out. We watched and then a tom followed. 50 yds. They started our way(had a decoy past us) but stopped 30 yds out. Problem was that those windows were completely froze shut. We tried to wait them out for 10 min but I could tell they weren't going to go past us and by the open window. I finally got the froze window free and he shot him at 30 yds. Done and home by 8:30. 1"spurs, 20 gauge.

Congratulation to your son and you. Remember my boys killing their first. Nothing better!

Great job. Taking a young one hunting is alot more fun than hunting alone. Remember all my grandson's turkeys and deer. My oldest daughter and grandson live outside Greenridge, is that close to you?

Mossberg 500 bantam turkey. Still had the Nikon Buckmaster 3-9x40 scope on it from deer hunting slugs with it. Didn't want to take it off and resight it in so we just left it on.
