Ole OP trapper O Joined: Feb 2009 Posts: 634 ID	Just changed the gear oil in my outboard. No water in it. Do you think it would be OK to use it as bar oil in my Stihl MS170?

Depends on how much you use your saw, I personally wouldn’t run it all the time although you probably could but it might wear on your bar a little bit. for occasional use it would work fine.

Ole OP trapper O Joined: Feb 2009 Posts: 634 ID	The oil is OMC Hi Vis gear oil for the lower unit on a 115 outboard. I think it will work if it will feed out at the same rate.

I'm so tired of cleaning up saws at work that people have run used oil in. It's dirty, it's full of metal shavings, it wrecks the oil pump over time. And it makes the saw look like a dirtbag owns it. The repair bill always reflects how the owner treats their equipment.
