To survive this pandemic.

I swing by my local TSC to pick up some bar and chain oil. There were folks hauling out pet food by the pallet load, filling propane tanks by the pick up load, chicks are being snatched up as soon as they arrive.

According to the manager they've almost doubled their sales. I told him if it ever got bad enough that there was no more dog food I'd eat my dog.

Am I wrong in thinking humanity may lack what it takes?

I don't think you are wrong-- at least judging by what i am seeing around here. Of course I don't think much of "civilization" as a general rule anyway. It seems that the more "civilized" we get the less truly civil that we are. The similarities between us and the roman empire is something to consider.

We have money and materialistic based culture here as do several other nations and that brings about very different behaviors. Many feel as long as they have the money to buy what they need or want that, that will put them ahead of others. Many others have much different behaviors that serve them well. Much of this depends upon the length of the pandemic or acute phase we are currently in. The longer this lasts the less advantage there will be for those that base much on having cash. Cash can't buy stuff that is not there and many that are spending heavily now may run short of cash sooner than they planned and what is their backup plan?

Everybody's thinking that crazy prepper dude in the neighborhood wasn't so crazy, lol
I think the produce farmers will make a killing this year and everyone will suddenly try to be a gardener.

Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

Don't laugh dog food might not b a bad way to go. It's cheap, stores well and if memory from 40 some years ago serves me correctly, not that bad to eat...

From what I have heard your fishermen are coming unhinged because of the closures of the river accesses at FT Thompson and Lower Brule. They are saying it is because of out of state fishermen. LLL

When this thing was a few days in to the insanity my wife walked across the street from where she works to a locally owned grocery store for lunch. She got her few things from the deli and went to check out.10 check out lanes and every one of them backed up.People pushing carts heaped with essentials(?).She got in line and waited her turn. When she was close enough to the cashier she asked her what in the world is going on?The woman in front of her, unloading her cart of packs of TP,paper towels and whatever else looked at my wife and said"Whats wrong with you?Don't you watch the news"? What a bunch of sheep

Who needs toilet paper? We have two bushel baskets of corncobs. Use a red one first, then a white one to make sure you got it all.

The local Tribal Chairman had a article in the paper that people were coming from areas with more cases that were not staying home like their own States said they should, then the Corp of engineers got together with the tribes and pulled the launch sites. Still boats coming to town might be using the other options be it the City or GFP ramps or good old back in and hope you get back out when your done. Still free to travel here so nobody is stopping them.

The Reservation must be taking it seriously they shut down their casino even to avoid problems that could come up never thought I ever see that happen.

Exactly Ol'Smoke. If everyone would just be careful and turn off their tvs we would get through better.
