I hope you can see from the pic how both jaws of this trap are connected to the jawpost with a single pin. I have two traps with the jaws secured this way. Was there a particular era when this design was common?

The oldest traps that I have that I can confirm with single pin Jaws by maker are from around 1820. Single pin jaws are very common up through the 1880’s. There were several blacksmiths that still hammered traps by hand and forge even though Newhouse and others were casting and stamping parts.

Just a different way of doing it. I always felt it took more skill to make the single pins.

Yes, more skill is needed,They often break ,where pin goes thru, too thin at this point>
