Found this saw. Appears to be pretty old. Can somebody give me a tutorial?

Reminds me a LOT of an old Homelite 400XL that I had back in the early 1970's The chain looks fairly new on that

Yeah, it looks like it could chew pretty good but it’s heavy. Is the button there by the handle for manual oiling of the chain?

I never heard of a Power Lite. Also was curious about the Remington bar?

I would think the button would be for manual chain oiling. I had an old one that you had to manually push a button located in that same area. I don't recall the name, I got it at a garage sale many years ago. It was my first ever chain saw.

Definitely looks like a homey. Clean the plug, fresh mix, flip the switch to run, pull the choke and pull it over.

I cut about 15 cords a year. Had a husky that was a workhorse for about 15 yrs before getting a nee Stihl last year. 14 years to go before the verdict is out on which is better.

No chain brake and it doesn't look like it has much in the way of anti-vibration built into it.

Much easier on the arms when it’s chewing on a log.

Looks like a Remington, my grandfather bought one years ago and they gave him a Remington nylon 66 , 22 rifle along with the saw.
He said after running the saw he understood why they gave him the rifle, and that was to shoot yourself after running the saw.

Make sure you know and use the correct oil ratio. Might be a 24 to 1 engine or earlier. Surely not 50 to 1.

The thing is a beast! I found the sweet spot with the choke and used it this morning to cut up the trees I cut down yesterday. The manual oiler is easier to operate than I first thought.

Manual oiler saw is the way to go if you use the same saw to cut ice and wood.

Find a nice shelf to display it and get a modern saw to use. The joints in your fingers, hands, and wrists will thank you later.

Eh...I use mine every now and then. I put the Granberg slab jig on it and cut posts, works well. Definitely wouldn’t want to use it every day that’s for sure. Parts are getting hard to find too.
Mine also don’t sit on a shelf..I hang them by the handle from the purlins of the log shop. I get compliments all the time..or a few look in horror.
I recently picked up an 1100 with what looks like a winch drive on it. Wish I could get pics to post. Can’t find a name on the case.

Makes it NOT an xl or xl12?? You are wrong, ALL of my homelites have manual oilers. The xl 923 has auto and thumb the xl925 is just thumb.

I don't see it as being a big problem. Dump the oil out of the gas tank, pull the sparkplug, hit the bulb primer several times if it has one and crank on it a few times. The oil might move slow through the gas line but I think you can move it along. Probably foul a plug in the process before it comes out of it.

Hobbietrapper I haven’t been able to post pics since the last time the site was (changed?).. no matter what I do I can’t seem to post....think I was able to resize? my picture once or twice and it took but that’s it. I’m also working from a mobile phone so that could be my problem.
