Coygog2 is right. I shot the Activ shells for ducks for a season. I didn't reload but they cycled fine out of pumps and semiautomatics but they didn't stick around long.

I wouldn't have thought it was that much weight reduction, interesting.

shot shells are low pressure , very low pressure 7000 to11,100psi

38spl +p is up to 19,000psi

9mm 32,000psi

223/5.56 55-61,000 psi

300 win mag 63,000psi

50 Bmg >63,000psi

5-6 times the pressure changes things and has been a big part of the hurdle to poly cased ammo extracting in a semi or full auto in a bolt you can use a more elastic plastic that shrinks back down in side before you pull the bolt handle back

Wouldn't it be more affective to just make a lazer gun.

patfundine , laser guns already exist. they need a semi to haul the power supply however

the Browning M2 aka MA Duce is a pre-WW2 1933 gun based on the 1919 Browning light machine gun in 30-06 87 years later they are trying to figure out how to run plastic cased ammo rather than design a new machine gun.

in part because of how well the M2 holds up there were 1939 builds still in service as of a few years ago they had been rebuilt but they were around

Me thinks they gonna run into problems with polymer casings and hot barrels on machine guns. Sure they might work ok shooting semi auto. But once you crank out a few hundred 7.62 in a 240b that thing is just gonna be a problem. MGs already shred brass shavings all in the receiver so i think a bunch of hot gooey plastic is just gonna jam it up past the point of fixing it in the field. Probably right in the middle of a fight..then your MG is out of action. Saving ammo weight is only really a concern with SAW gunners and 240 gunners. Rifleman can carry plenty of 556 in mags. Its the 40 lb door knocker or stupid assault ladder they make the rifleman carry that kills them.

Saving bullet weight on a M2 is just stupid. Vehicles carry the ammo. Its more a size that limits how much you can carry rather than the weight.

I didn't say saving weight on the M2 made sense but the article talked about 50bmg poly cased ammo

they have some poly that can take a lot of heat , I am replacing the all plastic intake manifold on a 2000 Ford 5.4L currently it made it 20 years

the context I had heard of case less or poly case ammo was to make it un-reloadable and stop leaving good metal scattered all over the place , part of why the soviets used all steel cased , yes you can reload it but not as easy or for as long and it is a low cost metal.

I remember the Wanda all plastic shot shells, I shot a 2 3/4" in a 3" chamber and the rim broke off and the hull went to the end of the chamber. I had a heck of a time getting it out.

Shotgun shells used to be made out of cardboard. They used brass just like today to swell and seal the breech but the rest of it was paper. Making a rifle case with out any brass sounds interesting to me.
