I remember him more as a broadcaster then a player. He and George Kell were a fabulous team in the booth.

Great right fielder. I never saw him play but listened on the radio when I could get the Detroit games once in a while. He was could field, throw, hit and hit with power and was a smart base runner.

I remember listening to baseball in the summer of 1968 in Lansing. I had gotten out of the Army Aug.7.

A bunch of us local boys from Coleman rented rooms at an old house in Lansing. All but one of us worked at Oldsmobile.

We all sat and listened to the series being played. That was Ernie on the radio then I believe.

May you R.I.P. Al knowing people loved you on and off the field.

The closest to his caliber of a man and a baseball player would be Cal Ripken JR. in my opinion. They both played the game the right way (as Sparky Anderson used to say).
Both of them humble too.
