Thats around 4-5 year old canebrake? maybe...could be, they get a new rattle each time they shed their skins, which depends how fast they grow, usually 2-5 times/yr.

Yep, that sure is a pretty snake.I collected snakes when I was a little kid. Glad we did not have venomous ones where I lived.
I'm just happy to be here! Today I'm as young as I'll ever be and and older than I've ever been before!

timber rattlers are protected in ks. we dont have many. prairies and massauguas are common. Around here there are quite a few timbers. Never seen a prairie or massages around the house, but have seen many timbers withing my stomping grounds and I don't go looking for them. May just be this bluff I live on though. Got plenty of copperheads to go with them to.

Wolfy that skin would make a purdy set of custom 1911 grips. Jim
Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

Nope, would been a easy shot but again haven't seen one in years much less that size. I tried catching it with a pair of garbage tongs but that was a fat one and could never get a good grip on her. It slithered on bank under the scrap metal pile and everyone has been riding my case like a broke mule for most of the day. Mainly because everyone here is petrified of any kind of snake. Which I find idiotic ,I can understand copper heads and cotton mouths because their just mean and will chase you but I mean, I've had people ruin perfectly good days of fishing because they started hooping and hollering and shooting all over the place when they saw a dang water snake sitting on a log in the other side of the pond. Same thing with big snapping turtles so I usually keep my moth shut and try to move them away from people if I can help it

Too bad its illegal to haul them down to Waynoka OK the first weekend after Easter for the rattlesnake roundup. Some folks there that will pay good for timbers.
Saw a pair of copperheads down by Mound City last year. Was loading some bath tub size rock for a landscaper. Guy on the skid loader started screaming and yelling . So I got out of my truck to see what was killing him and could I maybe help him out. He was pretty incoherent when I got out of the truck. I got up to him and he told me there was a pair under one of those rocks. I convinced him to pick the rock up with his loader and I killed both of them with a scraper I use on the truck bed sometimes. I would have preferred not to, we were out in the middle of no where, but that loader operator was literally on the edge of panic.
