I doubt the oil caused the problem , sounds like not enough fuel
Does it have a float bowl and main jet . The main jet is prolly pluged from sitting with bad gas ........just thing out loud here

Rinse it out with gas a few times it should be fine.
Was born in a Big City Will die in the Country OK with that!

I have an idea... Quit drinking when trying to operate a chain saw! LOL. Those words come from experience and not the internet. Drain the gas tank, use a solvent like break parts cleaner in the gas tank. DO NOT START THE SAW with this in the tank. Take the spark plug wire off the spark plug so you have no ignition. Pull the sh!t out of the pull string. Dump left over solvent out of the tank. Remove sparkplug and pull string repeatedly. WD 40 sprayed into the spark plug hole works as a good lubricant for startup. Top off fluids and give it heck. Good luck

Some break cleaner will eat some plastics. I would us carburetor cleaner. That's what you are cleaning not breaks.
