Looks to be the body type of a Jack with cottontail ears.

I'd rather taste one than to just look at one and drool.

I have been intrigued with them ever since I read in a book that they sometimes eat meat!

Are they common near you? I've never seen one on the north slope.

The further north one goes the larger body animals get and the shorter appendages are as this helps retain heat. Just the opposite for the tropics and other hotter regions. One also gets less diversity in species as one goes north.

Peppered hare is as good as peppered beef I am betting. The bunnies down here have dime sized ears but they butcher up nice.

Yea, they are common here. Traditionally they are hunted in late winter/early spring. They are mating then, they say if you shoot the female the males wont leave and you get them all.

All I remember them by;In summer is that they are good Cardiac surgeons , because when they jump up before you take your next step, your heart is relocated into your throat for the next 10 minutes. All along you thought Barren ground grizzs were bad

Did you go down by Kuzi to get that? Was down there once with a couple redfox men from Emo. I remember a willow drainage and Jake would chase them around and get a shot at them. Long ride from Emo. Your closer. Have also shot them at Granite Mt. north of Koyuk and they are around Nome.
They sell well on taxidermy.net.

At an ATA meeting this winter a woman was asking about getting samples from the hares. They said the official designation is Alaska Hare. Arctics are in Canada. Probably, won't change what most of us call them.

I've seen them on the AK Peninsula, Pacific side, across Shelikof from Kodiak.
