Smith & Wesson .380 EZ. I think they make a 9mm EZ also. It has a grip safety like a 1911 and I think you can get it with or without a thumb safety. My wife has one and likes it. My nine year old son loves to shoot it and would blast ammo with it all day long if I would let him. Heck I like it too! I would like to carry it sometimes. But it's hers.

I vote for a light weight revolver, no jams or problems trying to pull the slide back to put a round in the chamber. Very simple when scared, point and click.

X3. They now have 5 shot revolvers in 9mm too. I love the LCR (Lightweight Compact Revolver) by Ruger and Cheaper than dirt has aftermarket grips in all shapes and colors so you can fit it to her hand. These things are only 13 oz before loading so the .38 special +P is a handful but the 9mm is very mild in spite of the weight.

Cycling the slide on a semi-auto is a problem for some women. This was the basis for my 637 suggestions. I personally have never had a FTF with a DA revolver.

Glock 42 or 43 no safety keep it in the holster for a “safety” and keep it simple as possible just pull, aim and shoot, at a time it would ever be used the brain shuts down and muscle memory is your friend if not the brain shuts down like buck fever.

Frankly take her to the gun shop and handle them herself or your likly to get one that feels good to you but not to her
So far we know you are looking for a concealed carry 9mm or similar. Those guns and 38 revolvers are a dime a dozen. In this age its darn hard to go wrong as far as general reliability/performance. The list goes on and on--S&W revolvers and M&P, Springfield XDS series, Sig, Glock, H&K, Walther, Glock. There's a good gun from each of those along with many others. Beyond the names theres a world of difference just with basic functions between manufacturers and even between model lines. Particularly if she is going to carry, she needs to decide what works for her--a wheel gun, da/sa auto loader or a striker fire and things like comfort levels with safeties or having none at all. Every action works, some might be more comfortable for her. I've used about everything over years and doubt will ever own another carry gun thats not strike fired but doesnt mean thats best for everyone. And I happen to like the added 1911 type grip safety of some striker guns rather than none like on a glock but again thats me. And then there's ergonomics. Guns that fit the hand simply shoot with greater ease. Guns that dont can be shot but they take much more concentration and skill level on shooters part. And theres a WORLD of difference in feel of guns between manufacturers and also between the models. Some guns have reputation for lack luster feel such as glocks but a gun that you or I think feels like crap might be perfect for her. So go to the biggest handgun shop you can. Have her handle all the guns of interest. Even better if its a shop with rental range where she can test fire similar used guns because frankly if she doesnt already have alot of range time with handgun she may not really know what feels good when it comes to getting it to point where it needs to and go off. Think about everyone i know has gone thru multiple carry guns looking for that perfect match for them.

Start with a .22. Seriously. Or at very least, have her shoot a 9 before you buy one. Some women will never get comfortable with even a 9 going BANG that close to their face (its a thing for many). Everyone loves a .22. Easy and fun to shoot. Nobody will ever be proficient if they don't like to shoot it (or are just scared of it...which happens quiet a bit with the full sized calibers and women).
Once comfortable, she can move up further down the road. My guess is she won't want to, though. Seen that.
And I have no qualms about carrying my .22 for defense. Ask any ER doctor in the big cities how effective the .22 is at putting people on their operating table. Trauma docs hate the .22 round.
I bought my ex Browning Buckmark .22. I liked it so much I immediately went out and bought myself one. Kinda long for carry but a very smooth target gun that I've never had jam even after dumping it in the mud. I've had rifles that weren't as accurate.
